I see the Rust Evangelism Strike Force are out in action again. Guys, it may surprise you, but some of this kit predates Rust :)

Am I the only one who thinks that it’s not particularly incredible that a new CPU that implements the ridiculously complex (for good reasons, but still) x86 instruction set with all its historical baggage has bugs? Every x86 has had errat

I think anything with an i5 or i7 in the name has the ME onchip. My spare Thinkpad certainly does & it’s four or five years old at this point in time. I turned the ME off in the bios the moment I acquired it, but I doubt Lenovo will b

\setlength{\footskip}{ length } should do the job. You might have to reduce the \textheight to make room. What are you trying to achieve?

There is no valid excuse for that. There was when TeX was originally written to run on memory constrained mini computers. I agree that there isn’t an excuse today.

If the talent demands all related transactions be disclosed through such a platform, then it might have some effect? The studios are going to resist it tooth & nail though.

Seems to be an ipv6 connection problem; if you add gutenberg.org to network.dns.ipv4OnlyDomains in firefox it works fine. Weirdly, I can telnet to port 80 & GET / on the ipv6 address just fine.

That would make sense. Water tanks would be breeding grounds for the amoeba. (The UK housing stock is slowly converting over to plumbing that eliminates the water tanks, but lots of older housing will still have a water tank in the loft som

Unfortunately companies do this all the time: I have personally seen clauses in contracts put forward by employers whose exact wording had been rendered completely ineffective and unenforceable by UK employment case law. If it’s bad faith

According to Dominic Cummings (who ran Vote Leave) it was absolutely the case that immigration was the No 1 driver for the vote to leave the EU. So much so that they had to explicitly set aside 15 minutes at the beginning of every focus gro

No, just inflation taking the rest of the universe over the horizon - I believe it’s the dynamic effects of being in an inflationary universe that mean that the standard GR results for black holes don’t apply, at least according to the refe

Or Swift - Swift sneaks in sum and product types via a c-structy syntax. Once you see the type system underneath the syntax (which was devised not to scare the Objective-C horses IIRC) it’s quite pleasant.

True! Hmm. I retract my statement: Penrose/Hawking predict that all GR black holes contain singularities. In our universe, it looks like inflation is the fly in that particular prediction: The universe is going to tear itself apart ins

Yes, absolutely - black holes don’t need singularities inside them in order to be black holes. Just enough mass in a small enough volume. (Of course, we don’t actually know whether stellar or galactic centre black holes have singularities i

At a guess: cross country sales travel. You could easily rack up 2 or 3 fairly long distance Uber trips / day doing that (Airport -> Hotel -> Client -> Airport to travel to the next client)

I’m not sure I believe that a mathematical formalism that is unable to make useful real world predictions deserves the “theory” moniker. Hence your list of quantum theories of gravity aren’t. But perhaps that’s me being picky :) > I thin

No, there is no quantum theory of gravity & QFT doesn’t include gravity at all. The best you can do is add gravitational effects as an after-thought, but the things you might analyse with the full QFT are generally far too small & s
