I would compare GPS to something like Starlink which went from idea to activation in 5 years while GPS took over 15. While of course, Starlink relied on government know-how, given away for free, the speed of deployment was 2-3x. In the end

I want something that doesn’t operate on scarcity (like the corporation), but can work at the velocity of a corporation. Things like GPS and the internet would’ve been deployed much faster by a private corporation but then they would be dum

Yea so kitsault wants a pipeline too. As evidenced by the website someone posted elsewhere in this thread [1] [1] http://www.kitsaultenergy.com/index.html

Canada likes to ship its oil out that way, esp to Asia. Pipelines from Alberta to BC are a political minefield but buying real-estate and then waiting for the politics to “blow-over” is apparently a thing that happens a lot.

I know several software engineers who look longingly at real-estate management and it’s default literal rent-seeking monetary rewards. Some have even taken the plunge. Nice to hear about someone going the other way.

FWIW, in the context of robotics, where there are real inputs you set, the motion model ends up being extremely useful and behaves much differently than just a frequency-domain filter. But the overall subject of comparison to just a low pas

Yea that could work. I was thinking like, “This is how Kenji Lopez breaks down his salad recipes so he can get creative with what’s in his pantry”

This is awesome. Would love to buy food-type packs from an app like this! Like, “Teach me the basics of Salads”, or “Advanced stir fry recipes”.

Just a small correction. Jerusalem Demsas has changed her opinion on rent control [1]. Her corporate overlords must be MAD! [1] https://www.vox.com/22789296/housing-crisis-rent-relief-cont...

There’s really no need to do 1,2 if you can just do 3 + public/private partnership to build more. Airbnbs are legitimate demand. We just need over-supply now. The government should be able to step in.

The climate reaper is already here and it’s the Texans featured in this article that will feel the heat first. The 200k/yr developer will comfortably whisk themselves off up the hill. Maybe this is more complicate than you think it is?

Found the landlord XD. FWIW, I'm with you, I think rental income ("landlording") and airbnb-ing are both legitimate demand, and the system would work fairly if we didn't have artificial constraints on supply. Insofar as

Yes labor shortages are a problem. But in this context, the Uber methodology would be useful for busting through the archaic city approval processes + frivolous environment lawsuits aka the prime driver of the housing shortage [1] [1]: htt

Two things can be true: a) Uber was a crappy business model that required the exploitation of the labor force to raise money. If this fact can't be fixed for the company to be profitable, the company can shutdown or become a co-op fo

The number of people that look at our current political doldrums and go, "Should I show up with five of my friends to the primaries?, No No! alternative crypto anarcho land grab is a better idea" is way too high.

Curious though what the government could do about this pricing scheme here? Seems like the solution is to setup a bureaucracy to watch pricing and then micro-manage the situation whenever its tried? The ride-hailing services pulled this in
