This was a talk to be given to the Google News team vis a vis their editorial choices w.r.t caste in India. Can’t think of a more important talk to be given to them tbh.

This. I wish more polls had an importance/salience correction factor applied. It would significantly tilt most polls.

If that was a replicable strategy, that would be amazing. The averages say otherwise and I would bet continue to do so if we check-in, in a decade.

By export, I mean export inter-state. Boise property prices are definitely going up due to SF’s housing dysfunction.

As long as going to the same bar as your boss during happy hour leads to a promotion, career progression + economic opportunity will be tied to geography. Barely any companies operate like Gitlab does. Demographic decline is a much bigger p

Right, the government should make sure housing is available at all levels. Presumably it’ll have to do very little to make sure luxury housing is available.

Having had lived in urban areas all my life, American urban cities are criminally under built. There is sooo much room for growth (note room doesn’t mean land, it means airspace). If you have a pastoralist dream, feel free to build rural

High construction in Idaho does nothing for housing in New York. National construction rate averages are pointless. Gotta break it down by geography and locations of (in-person) jobs.

I really think most of the solution is in the first part of your plan. There’s no need to micromanage tenant-landlord relationships or setup governmental panels on who historically deserves to live where, if the government can just make sur

Housing prices are high in places with construction because the places without construction are larger and are forcibly exporting demand. It’s all about supply.

Well now I'm curious, is the claim that photoreal-ness doesn't matter when training network for the real world. Weird.

Awesome to see the default format for the dataset be Gazebo, but doesn’t the material rendering system not compare to photoreal results from Blender? Interesting choice.

Yes, LVT solves problems at multiple levels (removes barriers to zoning reforms and incentivizes more productive use of land). It’s also politically difficult to get passed. However, it seems if we were to try to turn the tide on just one p

The reform of zoning laws (atleast in California) is blocked by property owners sitting on low-tax properties. Raising the land value tax would be a surefire way to make the opposition disappear as property owners would have to scramble to

This is a massive failure of imagination. I moved into a new 5 by 1. Don’t even know who lives above me (never heard em). Sound Insulation has come a long way. There’s a lot that can be done to add autonomy and privacy to the condo living.

Land is a finite resource but housing units are not. Once America gets over it’s love affair with single family homes, we could undercut most speculators by just building up.

People love BeautifulSoup, but I've had better luck with fully emulating a browser with Selenium. While more complicated it seems to run into less issues. Is there a rule of thumb as to when to use one over the other?
