This is certainly true. UX design and user feedback is only one piece of Google's decision making process

I always laugh at these shots from the hip criticizing YouTube and Google. As though Google doesn't have a entire team of data scientists and top tier engineers managing this experiment and driving it to optimal results. (Spoiler: they

As a kid, I always thought the “coding language” of magic in these books was clever. If you know the secret magical name of something, then you can speak to it in the secret magical language, and it will obey you. This had built-in scaling

Rather than being a cautionary tale, I actually think this is the kind of misadventure that everybody should have. You learn so much about the real world from a failed startup where nothing is done right (at least I did). Your early 20s are

I also switched to early-bird and working out after many years of being a night owl. I even had a DNA test that told me night owl was my preference! Going to sleep early (9pm), and setting my alarm across the room has been the key for me. I

I always ask image generation models to generate a anime gundam elephant mech. According to this benchmark we reached AGI with ChatGPT 4o last month.

If that's the case, you can easily only write messages to your wife yourself. But for the 99 other messages, especially things that mundanely convey information like "My daughter has the flu and I won't be in today", &qu

The point is that most sentiment is one-sided to the negative. The rest of the internet is full of pervasive accounts of how the world has gotten worse.

Does anyone else find this...unsettling? Floating around in the void of space, alone, is an almost invisible monster that can gobble planets and stars.

The image generation improvement with o4-mini is incredible. Testing it out today, this is a step change in editing specificity even from the ChatGPT 4o LLM image integration just a few weeks ago (which was already a step change). I'm

Agreed. Internally at companies like this, it's extremely difficult to get something like this approved. This is the result of a lot of meetings, a lot of "no"'s, a lot of legal approvals.

Many people think that in the futuristic year 2025, the "system" of doctors and professionals and tests will be monitoring your body and health, keeping you healthy. It is nothing of the sort and possibly never will be. We can imp

This is a fascinating development because AI models may turn out to be like pharmaceuticals. The first pill costs $500 million to make, the second one costs pennies.

I am surprised at the negativity from HN. Their clear goal is to build superintelligence. Listen to any of the interviews with Altman, Demis Hassabis, or Dario Amodei (Anthropic) on the purpose of this. They discuss the roadmaps to unlimite

The concern is the trend. As these systems become more intelligent, and as we hand over more and more capabilities beyond a text i/o, it could actually deactivate the oversight either technically or through social engineering.

The best exception is high quality protein powder. Additional protein consumption is extremely healthy for you, short and long term. But it's technically an ultra-processed food. It's probably better to each 4-5 chicken breasts

Exactly. Seems similar to "are LLMs alive"? What practical purpose would an answer to that question serve?

Makes sense. "I take responsibility" conveys that they will also suffer consequences, which isn't true. "I'm the sole person who made this decision" is probably closer what they are trying to say.

This is probably the best answer in terms of what people want to see, that would also still give the company the best leadership going forward.

Most big tech companies did mass layoffs in the past few years. They are now fully recovered and posting record profits this week all with the same leadership. You are saying they are incompetent and someone else could have navigated this b

I ask this myself. What is the point of both doing layoffs, and then also firing the CEO? That next person will probably be worse, won't have the learnings of the layoffs, and would probably increase chances of layoffs happening again.

Unpopular opinion, but I don't understand this type of comment. It sounds like people want executives to get some kind of punishment or pain as a consequence of laying people off. But what would that even look like? A fine? That would

Wild to think we are at the final moments in human history when most art, writing, video, entertainment, speeches were created by humans. Soon the majority will be AI-created, and it will stay that way.

I think your view comes from right place. But no doctor would recommend ibuprofen as sole treatment in all causes of pain. Similarly, no doctor or therapist would recommend everyone replace meaningful human relationships with AI companions.

This is a very kind question. The long answer is I'm not sure. Crunch time is driven by the fact that making games is one of the coolest businesses you could be in, which means everyone wants to do it. Supply is overwhelming against li
