Go in particular has an amazing standard library and very clear guidelines on how to write code. JavaScript does not have either of those things so it promotes people releasing competing libraries with similar functionality written in vari

It’s all very parasitic and relies on a lot of disconnect. The advertisers often don’t even know what they are buying as these things go through “exchanges” that are basically computers buying and selling as real estate. The smaller the b

This wouldn’t help much unfortunately. The company could just setup a proxy server to do the work that lives under their domain. A company like segment (which routes analytics to other platforms) could then offer personalized domains and

Another problem is these analytics platforms just keep getting worse. There used to be a lot of effort put in to not collecting any personally identifiable info. Hell even google analytics was strict about that. It also took time to integ

It’s pretty typical of the manager/employee tool adoption cycle. Slack is 100% a net positive if your job description requires you monitor multiple things to make sure they are all ok and resolve issues in a timely manner. As usual p

The biggest mistake I think go made was not to include codes or domains. The error you get back is... a string. So you have to write tons of if statements just to return a bunch of errors you can’t handle.

I was obsessed with vector displays as a kid. The standup versions of Star Wars and tempest looked so futuristic in comparison to the other stuff out at the time. Vectrex also looked a whole lot cooler than the Atari 2600 but I guess peo

I think of it more like supporting a local pizzeria. Firefox gets me 100% there on my desktop and using it on iOS sends Apple some sort of number that I prefer using it over the stock browser.

I use Firefox on iOS. Most third party apps give you the option to switch so things like my rss reader, email client and calendar all open in it. The problem is they don’t really have enough granular control over things so they are missin

Another helpful thing that can be done with Firefox is to add google.com to a container. One of the things google does that I really dislike is personalized search. Having a container specified for it lets me use the browser more naturally

Upon opening this link I got a nice little popup from firefox letting me know that it had blocked some social media trackers for me. The snake is just eating its own tail at this point.

10 lines written is low but context also really matters. If you are building a greenfield project then averaging 10 loc a day is not going to work out. However if you are the guy on your team who fixes all the nastiest bugs or cleans up l

Async/await might actually help you clean up your codebase. Much better to have more syntactical sugar to keep code reviews lively and add more surprises for future developers!

You can thank limiting the use of pointers and macros for that.

Yeah I'm super surprised it took this long. I mean even an "audio off on dashboard previews" setting would have sufficed. It's the single most irritating "feature" of any of my TV apps.

The example in the article certainly did not bend to the will of the “code review” tool. The issues had nothing to do with a linter, the author just never went back to consider if it was legible.

Twitter (and in general social media) is probably a good thing to avoid for communication if you are not a large company that can staff up for it. Threads can devolve very quickly into “campaigns”. I would not want to have my medical staf

Kaiser and mental health are a brutal combo. I had Kaiser in my 20’s and got depressed. It took them 3 months to see me in their mental health department. I told them I just needed someone to talk to for a bit but they saw me twice, aske

I’ll second this. If you are struggling to stick with a novel then get some short stories to remind your brain why you used to like to read.

I hate that autoplay preview feature with a passion. So does everyone in my house. It’s gotten to the point for me where I’ll open any alternative ui (Roku app, Apple TV app, random web searches) to avoid having to use theirs.

It also costs a good deal less for a band to put out an album than it does to make a season of game of thrones.

Analytics don’t provide context. My wife hates autoplay videos and those “blog posts” that now appear before all the recipes. Unfortunately turning off the video and having to scroll around trying to find the recipe is increasing her “eng
