You’d never do a DFT for generating a fBM, but the same technique using a different noise spectrum is how we’ve been generating ocean waves in the VFX industry since forever: https://people.cs.clemson.edu/~jtessen/repor

Graphics uses a lot of Monte-Carlo integration, for which you need (pseudo) random numbers. You want your random numbers to be fast to generate, and have completely uniform so as not to introduce bias in the result.

Yes it’s a shame. I really like emacs but the lagginess is just too jarring while working.

It makes LSPs usable for me on my desktop 5950x. Still a bit laggy on my laptop.

Because you just don’t use the types in the alloc crate, or you use the (only partially implemented) APIs that return a Result<> instead of panicking on allocation failure. For that kind of low-level work I’d probably do the former an

To add to the other advice - bring a change of underwear in your carryon to change into before arrival. Makes a huge difference to how you feel the rest of the day when you arrive.

No the dynamic range and wider color gamut is. Your argument is that 10-bit sRGB doesn’t give you anything over 8-bit sRGB, which I don’t agree with but it’s reasonable. But that’s not what HDR is. 8bpc is definitely not enough to represent

“If you calibrate the HDR screen to be as dim as the LDR screen they’ll look the same” isn’t a great argument.

For low-dynamic range maybe, but for HDR 8-bit is definitely not enough.
