I think your view of history is just as myopic. The NSA has been around since the 50s and the original FISA of 1978 was written specifically because it was revealed that the NSA was spying on domestic targets at the request of Nixon. Every

Really? Are you kidding? .NET as it stands, is way ahead of other virtual-machine environments. What are you basing this on?

The problem with your argument is that it's not that he blew the whistle, it's that he didn't do it in a responsible manner. Also, whistleblowing doesn't always include breaking a law or contract. Also, he also exposed

They did change it, except for the one thing the provider of the so-called "open" API doesn't even do - HTML5. Why should Google hold MSFT to that standard when it doesn't even do it itself? I smell the same anti-trust

It's a raw deal for the cable companies, too. They'd rather do an a la carte format, but the networks bundle themselves. It's like this, ABC, which owns ESPN (one of the most watched TV networks) says that if you want to ca

Good comments, plus, if you can do it, it might be wise to have a version of your product that's not SAAS. A self-hosted version, like Github Enterprise. Be careful, though, self-hosted customers can be huge PITA's.

Americanesque? 80 hours? 3 hour commute? America is bigger than SV, my friend. Here in the midwest, you'd be VERY hard pressed to find a tech person that works more than 45-50 hours on a rough week. The longest I've ever comm

What is there to feel shame about? Opinions are just that - opinions. You shouldn't feel ashamed for people that have different opinions than yourself. That seems overly judgmental and elitist, especially the "relatively rural&

Hmm, why not look into laptop docks? That's how we do it at my company. Each workstation is just a dock, screens, and mouse and keyboard. You can move around anywhere really easily.

Does anyone else think we need a new open-source widget toolkit? Qt, GTK, and what else is there? Those guys are old. I've done both, and WPF, and WPF is just so much better. I wish there was an open-source toolkit that didn't

I'd say it's just coincidence. The White House doesn't decide to take a policy position like this "over the weekend". I'd bet it's been in the works for a couple months, they've just been nailing down the plan and the wording.
