FYI, the "HTTP protocol" link[1] in the intro page above is broken. PS: I love the name "Prolly Tree". [1] < https://github.com/attic-labs/noms/blob/master/datas/databas...

Another question to help me better understand the tool: who do you see as your competitors, technically? What do you see as viable alternatives to Noms, but worse? (Or better!) I do see that you were inspired by git, but clearly your use

My queston is on scalability. You say "large datasets" on the website. What is large? 1x/10x/100x Terabytes? 1x/10x/100x Petabytes? What kind of access rates? Etc. Very general answers are okay -- I'm

This is a great point. I'm hugely attracted to the quantified self stuff, but the fact it's not clear the outcomes of knowing all this data is net good, given our flawed selves.

Don't tabs preserve cursor position and collapse/expand state in a long (potentially multi-screen) document in a way that saved searches cannot?

I'm part of the LIGO team responding to the AMA. If anyone on HN sees a good question that hasn't been answered, link it here and I'll sure we get to it!

I presume (hope!) Deepika is a "real woman", and not a "real girl". I'm not trying to scold, but it's worth pointing out that most men wouldn't want to be described as "boys", and the culture th

The media, and society more generally, are also more forgiving of the foibles of young white men than they are young black men. The same social media missteps may lead to very different interpretations and outcomes.

This implies that these things must throw false alarms with some regularity, otherwise this would have been a huge red flag and they wouldn't have hesitated to follow up immediately.

Will someone please sell a well-maintained (and regularly blocklist-updated) Privoxy-as-a-service? I'd like to block ads on my phone, and haven't had time to set it all up myself.

I think this is great; the transition to open data in Big Science will be slow, but it's clearly the right thing to do. That being said, the biggest short-term practical consequence of this will be a stream of disturbed pseudo-scientis

This is the key point many people miss. Assuming a basic level of sanitation, less faecal contamination (there is never zero) + less bacterial competition may be worse in practice than more faecal contamination + more bacterial competition.
