How do you convert lossy music to another lossy format? I'm having my music encoded in 96kbps opus in my phone and it is much more convenient to encode them from flac than another lossy format. I have hundreds of albums bought and ripp

I really wish. At least the T490 and P-series are still available with replaceable RAM modules.

And I'll add the obligatory comment how us ThinkPad users enjoy our keyboard with the TrackPoint, experience no other manufacturer provide. I'd just remove the touchpad for more keys to the keyboard.

I've been using a desktop at work for the last ten years and hopefully to the foreseeable future. With a price of a MacBook pro you get 16-24 cores, good cooling facilities, 32-64 GB of RAM and excellent Linux support.

And get a refurbished T440p with a quad core CPU that's fast and costs you a couple of hundred of euros. Replace parts when they break. No need to pay the premium for the new models.

At least Lenovo just ditched their Touchbar after the disastrous 2nd generation of X1 Carbon, never to be seen again. Also did a mistake with the 2014 series of ThinkPad by removing the mouse buttons due to a bigger touchpad, just to give t

I've been trying a couple of approaches already, but first we're aiming correctness and after that async/await. Many libraries use tokio::spawn behind the scenes, so it seems we need compat from 0.1 to 0.3 and back to 0.1 to

We have the whole team waiting for this to land. We're probably going with nightly already due to the problems fitting Futures 0.1 model to our codebase. Very nice to hear.

We've been rewriting a big Scala code base to Rust now since January and the team is advancing in a nice pace. Our plan was: - Take one part of the system to rewrite over JNA - Run a massive amount of Scala tests against the new code -

Having a GC also kind of makes it nasty to write libraries to other GC'd languages. In Rust all of this is very easy, and you can get the speed bump to your Ruby/Python/JavaScript libraries using a modern and safe language.

My phone is an important part of my diabetes control. Travelling without or giving it away is not an option. I'll survive without it, but will lose the extra control of glucose in an already stressful situation.

The saddest thing is this will be the sole reason to not travel to US. Sad, because I have family there now and I do love the people and the culture.

I have the 9cell battery even with the X230 and always carrying it by grabbing from the battery. I really feel it's much nicer to travel with this than my slimmer T25, but of course it's subjective.

They are thick and sturdy. That's what I like about them. Thick, but with a 35W CPU that can do miracles. Utilitarian piece of hardware so far away of thin modern laptops, I just like them a lot.

Kind of funny, but you might consider getting a refurbished ThinkPad from a couple of years ago. If you're ready to replace some parts, a T440p will be fast and good for years to come. I got my X230 and it's so fast I really quest
