I love his analogy to a tightrope walker. Sure a tightrope walker can walk a rope for a very long time without falling off, but if the rope is infinitely long, he'll fall off eventually. Same with nuclear weapons. We've had 70 ish

Launch insurance can absolutely be given to classified payloads. My understanding of the launch insurance business is you say "my payload is worth $(X)XXX million to me and we're launching on this type of rocket" and the insu

It ends up being a question of time and cost. Even if you make no changes to the design, the construction and verification of a new copy will still take years (verification of space payloads this expensive takes FOREVER!) and likely still c

I used to work on satellites and so I know how sad a day this is for some people. Think of the team that would be involved in a billion dollar NASA probe. There would be thousands of people involved from component manufacture to ground cont

You're exactly correct. This is why the browsers decreased timing resolution in javascript so that you couldn't time memory accesses accurately enough to tell if the address was cached or not.

I agree with you that the solar panels aren't going to run the motor, but the 660W of solar on my RV with a large battery bank and a 3000W inverter have no trouble running everything in my RV including the AC for an hour here or there

Wouldn't there be an additional stepping at the transformer for level 1 and 2 chargers to go from AC distribution grid at 480V AC to 110V/220V where the level 3 superchargers can plug directly into the 480V AC mains without a tran

Seems like the only reason Salt Iodization doesn't make the list of "top" charities is because it is much harder to prove benefits back to the charity level. If a charity lobbies the local supermarket to label iodized salt wh

Sounds like you've been bubbled by search engines and social media. I'm in Denver but my wife is from Nashville. Nashville has bulgogi[0], has 3 different companies competing on the health care exchange this year[1] and Vanderbilt

I agree. "Manual" is a little generous. Especially for solar there are some much better resources if you step up to the RV world: https://therecklesschoice.com/2016/04/29/diy-rv-solar/ or http

The smallest nuclear plant in the US generates 582 MW of power with a capacity factor of 92.1%. That capacity factor means that in a year you'll get 582MW * 9258 hours per year * 92.1% = 4.9Trillion kwh/year of power. That's

You're not calculating it right. 40,000 - 6300 for the standard deduction - 4050 for an exemption = ~29,000. First ~9000 is taxed at 10%, next ~20,000 for this person is taxed at 15%. Total income tax that could be reduced by the $7500
