Ruby performance has improved a lot in the last few years, especially with the introduction of the JIT (YJIT), and it keeps improving with every new release. I think the notion of Python being the faster of the two may be outdated. You ca

You may want to try Pop!_OS [1], it's based on Ubuntu but AFAIK includes NVIDIA's proprietary drivers out of the box, which is basically the "better out of the box experience" you're asking for. That said, I think t

Many of the benefits you talk about apply to my Japanese bank account too. Bank transfers are instant and I don't need to fill in any forms (other than the receiving bank account info) or justify anything, and I get cashbacks both in f

Probably can't call it underrated, but some of Hayao Miyazaki's lesser known work is also some of my favorite. One example is the On Your Mark [1] music video, which is possibly the only time he went into cyberpunk, and despite be

After all XMLHttpRequest was a non-standard addition to the web API by Microsoft, specifically added for Outlook AFAIK. Firefox copied it though, so GMail could use it without sacrificing browser agnosticism.

I think it may be because unlike RGB values, which one usually doesn't pick by hand but rather visually through a color picker, the opacity value is something you may want to tweak by hand, and decimal is easier than hex for that purpo

It's all subjective of course, and not detract from this man's amazing work, but I find the rough stone to be just as beautiful, if not more so than the final polished piece. Especially in those final vanity shots, the shades and

It's probably obvious to most, but I wish headlines like these would clarify _desktop_ market share. Linux has had majority market share in the server space for decades now.

My podcast hit a milestone and I wanted to make something to celebrate it that I could send to some listeners. For a few reasons I decided to go with floppy disks.

I thought of that as a plan B if I couldn't make the audio fit, but practicality is not so much the goal. The episode is released online at full quality anyway and almost nobody has a floppy drive these days. It's more about havin
