There's no problem in using the Kindle store from other countries -- you're just paying $3-$5 dollars more for exactly the same thing as you'd get if you are registered in the US. You can check this by going to the same kindle page with an

Nice. Now, if they'd just drop their surcharge for ordering ebooks in mainland Europe I might actually use it. Paying $3-%5 extra per book just because I live somewhere else doesn't make sense with ebooks.

I have the same, but then use sshuttle [1] for a quick secure connection. Only does TCP, but if that doesn't bother you you can get it set up in 2 minutes. [1] https://github.com/apenwarr/sshuttle [2] For Lion: https://github.com/thatha/

This sounds pretty nice. Together with an AppleTV and Airplay, it makes it really easy to watch BBC stuff on our TV, if only the AppleTV was available in the Netherlands..

Probably because a) it's easy to restrict access to Europe with the app store and b) it's easy to charge money using the app store. I guess BBC doesn't have their own system in place yet to do subscriptions etc.

I wish they'd sell the ebook through different channels. The $4.99 ebook on Amazon is actually $8.04 if you want to buy it from the Netherlands. Still not a lot of money, but it makes me feel like I'm getting ripped off. I know it's Amazons

Another nice trick of OS X is its use of IPv6, also for its multicast DNS (Bonjour) networking. This means you can have a bonjour session up and running long before you have an IPv4 address, especially in the absence of a DHCP server. It's

Sounds like there really is a need for a standardized way to integrate bitcoin addresses into DNS. For example, just adding the address as a TXT field and using DNSSEC to sign it would make the whole experience a bit nicer already.

Yes. If you have digits only, you get a freetext field, but with the digits only keypad. Even more fun: if you give a four-digit passcode for the non-simple passcode, it turns on the 'simple passcode' option again, which means that you can'

Pretty cool. Add this as a shortcut (e.g. "hn") so you can type "?hn" to highlight all article links: .title a Or add this as an ESP to link all articles and comment links by default: *.title a, a[href^=item]

The problem with in-app purchases was always that Apple HAS to use the same 30% fee. If they use another percentage, developers just create free apps and make 'premium' features available for the same price as their paid app would otherwise

For people planning to use this (or any other messaging service): please be aware that this encryption doesn't mean that your chats are private. Apple still has access to the data, and so the US can probably request access to your chats fro

You're right, but Intel is working on it.. One major problem so far is that Intel didn't have ANY SoC's, and no-one wants to ship a 5W chipset next to the processor on their tablet. Their future SoC's might change that, but it's still uncle

I wonder if it's legal to remote wipe your iPad with MobileMe after they've taken possession of it. Or what about "Oh, you're going to arrest me? Can I have one second before you read my rights?" and then wipe it?

There's a good reason test-ipv6.com doesn't have an IPv6 address. If your IPv6 is broken then you can't go to that site to test it :).

yes, but then it might be easier if you just find a nat64 server and use that. I've run that for time and used an IPv6-only network like that for a few weeks, and it works "ok". Most HTTP stuff works, but things like Skype, FTP, and local D

This is interesting, and as for comparison, the construction cost of this is just a bit higher than for nuclear ($1/watt at 25% capacity for this vs $5billion / ~1.2GW at 95% capacity for nuclear), though that doesn't include labor for the

Good to see they're responding to the criticism so fast. Handing out /116's seems a bit of a weird choice, but that's not really a problem. I'd be interested in hearing how they handle the routing within the data centers. Is it all just eth

That's pretty close. In reality, I started working at a company where I was a fulltime Cocoa programmer. Working on a similar project in my free time just didn't seem that attractive anymore.
