It's not only the computational cost though. Hardware requirements are much higher and GPUs need to be replaced every 2-3 years. Plus model training expenses which are considerable. I imagine it's easily 100x more expensive and th

IIRC Google had no monetization at all until ads. Even then the cost of providing search with ads is orders of magnitude lower compared to running LLMs.

I'm not sure if this is comparable to the yellow pages vs the internet. Google became profitable in 2001 whereas OpenAI et al are still operating at a huge loss. Even with ads it's not clear whether LLMs can be profitable unless

> Pervasive OCR on Windows and Mac is fantastic, for example. I agree. Definitely useful features but still a far cry from LLMs which is what the average consumer identifies as AI.

> It's always 1000 line SCSS files and nobody knows what is going on there It's been 15-20 years since I last saw that. There are tons of solutions on how to easily organize CSS code these days that don't involve TW.

Consumers are not idiots. We know all this AI PC crap is it's mostly a useless gimmick. One day it will be very cool to run something like ChatGPT, Claude, or Gemini locally in our phones but we're still very, very far away from t

I'm from Spain. Yes you can find bakeries that sell sandwiches, especially in areas for tourists, but I would argue this is not the norm generally speaking. Bakeries for locals rarely sell sandwiches.

I only use Windows for gaming and 11 has been fine. Only use it to launch Steam though. My biggest complain is that every time I reboot I get the annoying ad for copilot and one drive that I can only skip for a couple of days.

Did railroads change the world though? They only lasted a couple of decades as the main transportation method. I'd say the internal combustion engine was a lot more transformative.
