In my opinion Haskell's capabilities to help implement general-purpose SW (services, compilers, GUI, game-dev, systems) are way over-hyped. Sure, it's nice to implement parsers/compilers in it (see ̶N̶̶̶i̶̶̶x̶̶̶, Elm, DHall)

That's actually my point. If Kubernetes does indeed provide the best solution to provide scalability and availability, one can argue that this would result in a decreased demand for dev ops engineers, as they "would just have to

How is it not totally different? People use Airbnb to rent apartments and people use GitHub to develop and share source code for software.

It's famous in the roguelike world but I dislike that it is practically pretty much impossible to win without spoilers [0] (which means you have to read about it in wikis and co. to find a strategy that works). [0 I know there are som

So far I did not reach that limit (I used it to train networks for image segmentation) so I had mostly ingress and only downloaded large amounts to the machine not from it (which is free like with most providers). But you can just ask the

I would go with Hetzner: https://www.hetzner.com/dedicated-rootserver/ex51-ssd-gpu GTX1080 for 100$ a month. Grantend, it is older, but it still works for DL. Let's say you do 10 experiments a month for ~20 hours.

True, the term "strong" is maybe too strong here. Let's go with "powerful".

From a certain point of view that is the same thing. A pure function can only enforced using a powerful type system. Otherwise one could argue, your types are "lying". EDIT: 's/strong/powerful'

Although I would not subscribe to the idea that VC as a solo developer is always a waste of time, there are definitely small scope projects where I do not use it. If you know your project is for sure _personal_ (i.e. not shared) and a small

I sometimes tried that (and used screen for some time), but it never clicked. AFAIK the only advantage to a scriptable tiling WM is the persistence thing, but I never had a use-case for that.

I think the consensus on the definition of _system_ languages is currently very shaky. For a long time you would expect languages with the ability to develop operating systems (in the classic sense, providing a hardware abstraction layer, e

Yeah if you link libreadline you have to GPL your source, but why do you consider that bad? Isn't that in the interest of the general public?

Can you elaborate on this? What exactly do you mean with unrelated source and might you give a concrete example what a company could NOT do if this code would be GPL'ed.

The best thing about Django is its documentation. It is one of the best (if not _the_ best) documented projects I have ever used. Example: Let's say you are reading about Django authentication related stuff and somebody links for furth

I am not sure Wolfram Research realize what they have. If they would make their stack FOSS they would be absolute heroes and shape the future of applied math and computation software with a historic impact. Otherwise they will fade away, wh

However, you can get very far with the built-in real-time capabilities. If your software stack can deal with occasional jitter in sensor updates (and normally you have to take that into account), you can compile a stock kernel with PREEMPT_

Furthermore SDL2 is absolutely fantastic and just works. You may say, you do not want to use it as it "just" abstracts away keyboard/mouse/controller input, window and GL context creation but these things are damn hard t

I agree with your points, but always wonder why shared hosting is often PHP/MySQL only. E.g. if you are using Python, say Django or Flask, and want to outsource your devops (i.e. shared hosting) you do not have many options. Of course,

May I ask, why this was downvoted? Isn't the idea of vbox's shared folders to provide a convenient data exchange with the host OS? If one puts ssh into the docker container, the host may mount a container's directory into its
