1. Dunno, but they’re working in MATLAB. 2. I would not expect that to work very well without an IMU, but you can do some pretty remarkably good odometry using wheel rotations, vision, and/or automotive radar if you’re dead set agains

Yeah, I think they said they used the TLEs. There are better ephemerides posted by SpaceX on space-track.org under contract w/ the govt, who doesn’t really want to be responsible for tracking all those objects.

I was in the audience for these presentations last week, and I sat down with Neinavaie and Khalife for a couple hours to discuss their work. I’m also engaged in very similar research myself, which I presented at the same conference. So...

No kidding. My potted Schlumbergera got nibbled by a mouse on the 9th floor. :-( I'd been nursing that plant back to health for years. This wasn't a regular occurrence up that high, but still.

Yeah, I think so too. While the authors might attempt to counter that they are only describing EM in vacuum, the fact is that GR is nonlinear. You can’t just add an EM sector by a rank-1 metric component and expect linearity to apply. At

Assuming that every paper is reviewed at least once, Markov’s inequality implies that every paper is reviewed exactly once!

We crossed paths. Steve was always recruiting volunteers to help staple up announcement posters for swapfest. If you didn't decline strongly enough, you'd never walk away from a conversation with him without a small stack of pos

I work at a lab where this is a major nuisance. I’ve been wondering whether the clock spreading in the USB standard could be manipulated to notch out certain frequencies, like in noise shaping for ADCs.

Interesting. I have had bad cell connectivity in unfamiliar airports, though, where I could barely keep a connection to e.g. the Lyft servers. What if I can’t download the module when I need it? I don’t think requiring the user to downlo

To add to what others have said-- The spectrogram image contains amplitude, but not phase information. (There are partial exceptions in special cases involving oversampling.) Conveniently, the human auditory system is primarily sensitive

The mainstream theory is that whatever reality is, its consequences on measurable length-scales are as-yet indistinguishable from an almost-everywhere-continuous medium. (I.e. away from black hole singularities.). Until we have the ability

1. Don’t let that happen. 2. There have been proposals before for core dilution buckets: a wide shallow dish under the reactor full of something like gallium for the hot core to dissolve into. As it spreads out into the dish, the heat and

Knowing nothing about this, broadly speaking, the enthalpy of formation of the diatomic nitrogen molecule is very high, and you might expect to achieve high energy density. Also it does not produce any CO2.

Blackbody radiation describes an electromagnetic field in thermal equilibrium. Typically, we associate this radiation with a particular source, or boundary; but the blackbody spectrum itself is a Maxwell fact, not a matter fact. Real syst

This! To my understanding, as a dilettante in the science of fluids, turbulence is an open problem mostly only in subfields pretty far removed from everyday engineering: The mathematicians question whether the Navier-Stokes continuum fluid

That’s a great question, and it’s (relatively) feasible to answer. The object is coming in towards the center the solar system, so its past trajectory lies outwards. If it has been disturbed into this path from a hypothetical sun-centered

How bad of an idea would it be to create a ROP-based JIT engine for these platforms? You could hand-craft the gadgets and use the stack to reduce interpreter dispatch overhead.
