Doesn't the fact that bitcoin hasn't taken off yet kind of validate the reservations that HN has? If Dropbox was still at 100 active users 10 years later, would someone be complaining about the dismissive comments HN had at the la

So basically to calculate the stationary distribution (distribution over a long time of evaluation) of a markov chain, you have to calculate the eigenvectors of the transition matrix. And these take into account the graph structure, so I th

I was curious as to how much energy the enthalpy of fusion corresponds to. Turns out it is less than one day of solar irradiation: https://www.wolframalpha.com/input/?i=333.55+kJ%2Fkg*28+tril...

Just as a side note, its not that people are terrible at perceiving brightness, it's just that brightness perception (like loudness) is logarithmic. So if a person says it is 2x brighter outside, and a linear measurement instrument say

Apache Beam seems to be an implementation of this idea. It works well when the things you have to do matches the logic, but it gets tricky if you need to do stuff iteratively or recursively.

I wonder how this compared to the Biosphere 2 experiments conducted in the 90s. It seems this is a much more artificial environment, and thus probably closer to an actual moon mission.
