While interesting, the figure you linked is from 2003. Is there an updated version that includes the last 2 decades? Edit: https://www.sciencedirect.com/science/article/pii/S254243511... Figure 1 has an updat

I think the point here is that all architectures can execute a certain type of program. An RNN maps to a finite state automaton, and this is an attempt at showing what the natural class of programs a transformer can implement is.

This seems a bit short sighted to me at least for the foreseeable future, because the data aquired while self driving will also be valuable. So it would make sense to encourage drivers to use the feature as much as possible, in order to imp

I've seen so many posts about or at least implicitly accepting the lab leak hypothesis in a very short time now, that it almost seems like some sort of concerted campaign to me. Would be interesting to know if there is an upvoting bloc

Others would argue it's kind of the opposite, funding of science by risk-averse and bureaucratic government agencies.

I think one should also not have any illusion that the general ranking algorithm is somehow special and untarnished. It is also optimized for Bing revenue, not any kind of higher ideal.

What do you mean my manipulate? That implies there is some kind of "natural" order that is being deviated from, which there isn't. It's all defined by the "bing keepers".

Went down the rabbit hole to the initial paper describing this phenomenon [1] from 1848. Turns out the paper immediately preceding it in the journal is "The calculus of logic" by George Boole! I wonder what the density of papers t

I agree it's a game changer in the long term (eg for multiplanetary life), but in the timeframe that we have to do something about climate change (rather short), the effect of fusion depends hugely on the cost of building and running a

In my experience in Germany this was not the case at all. Sports clubs see youth work as a way to ensure their own future, not as a profit center. I suspect youth work is also often subsidized.

And your model would reflect that after the day all the old people died. So you wouldn't see any negative excess deaths (= actual deaths - predicted deaths). Otherwise you would see massive excess deaths from the baby boomers getting o

I don't think it means nothing to a court, even if it isn't a formal contract. Verbal agreements also carry some weight in court in most jurisdictions, they just aren't as bulletproof. I would guess an nft is somewhere on that

I was simplifying, the point is that the model should always reflect the current state of the population. You shouldn't expect the kind of "catch up" effects that OP is referring to, unless you have static predictions that do

It shouldn't, because expected deaths in a time period should be proportional to the living population. If half your population dies in a war, your model should predict half as many deaths the following year, unless you don't upda

I think the fact that there are two things called 'data' here obscures the better analogy. The physics data is made available publicly, but you can't reproduce the method of generating it without building a particle accelerat

Isn't it the same in many cases? E.g. the discovery of the higgs boson is only possible with access to a large particle accelerator, many astronomy studies are only reproducible with access to a large telescope, and some ml studies are

> Why are so many scientists and doctors asserting, or implying that vaccine immunity is stronger and longer lasting than natural immunity when the data indicates otherwise? Do they? I don't think I have ever heard this claim.
