What about JS libraries or CSS hosted by a CDN? I'm thinking jQuery, Bootstrap, etc etc. I learned that using a common CDN was the way to go because the content would likely already be in the user's cache and often not need to b

Same. And I'm still amazed that people loved JS so much they put it on the SERVER too! And now node/npm is everywhere.

But that's an argument about having remote workers in other countries, not necessarily about remote work in general. Allowing remote workers would greatly expand the available resources a company could choose from within their own cou

Agreed, it didn't take long for me to learn to use the Advantage. But before that I had tried it a few times and got frustrated that I wasn't immediately able to use it. I'm glad I finally took the time though, because I lov

In a post about async web frameworks in Python, I'm really surprised that Tornado was not included.

Not that I'm aware of, but Tornado is a great async web framework. We use MongoDB and an ODM called umongo (that uses Motor for async, pymongo-like connections). I'm not sure what good async ORMs are available.

I've had this app a while and just used it to identify Eastern Skunk Cabbage growing near me. I didn't know that some plants could be thermogenic. This app seems to work pretty well. I tried this identification first on a single

Yep, with vanilla minecraft you can make a ton of interesting changes to the game using command blocks, redstone, etc. And then you have to consider modding, which opens up infinite possibilities.

In this sort of world, how do you prevent users from making bad queries and hogging all the database resources or even crashing the database? How do you prevent users from wiping out data? (I get that you could back it up and restore it, b

I use the same grip. I just tried several different grips using fewer fingers and I feel that they all impede pen movement because the fingers not on the pen are in the way. It just feels less versatile or something.

I'd looked into Kafka before and really liked the partitioned topics and specifying partition keys. This makes sure only one consumer handles all messages for a specific key. Is there a way to do this in Pulsar? I see they have part

I use the Advantage2 as well, and now have two so I don't have to lug one around to my second location. But when I got my first one, it sat for almost a year because I couldn't be bothered to learn how to type on it. I'm gl

I don't get why people have abandoned email for Facebook. Is it because of Spam, or poorly managed inboxes? Everyone has email.

Very much agreed. I have a sitting/standing desk and I've had a huge improvement in back issues since using it (and actually standing at it.. it's easy to forget to do that when you're so used to sitting). However, I als

Personally I think the main page's scrollbar should be handled by the OS. For any element inside the page, I think it's ok for the site to handle how the scroll works to make it consistent with the page's design.

There's really no consensus on what some of these job titles mean. IMO if it has "engineer" in the title, you're doing more than just writing algorithms. I'd say that in your example, Company 1 was looking for a d

I've only had minimal experience with InVision Cloud, which our designer used and seems to be similar to Drama. But being web-based it's not limited to Mac.

How is this better than or different from InVision? Also, it is Mac only but does not say that anywhere on the site.

I'd argue that communication via email can work just as well as FB. It's a little harder to "opt in" to updates, but with spam filters and other email features, it seems like it can be a lot less noise to have to filter

This is my new pet peeve, especially when it's at all programming-related. Anyone dealing with code should know readability is a big deal. I can parse a sentence better with that extra comma without having to reread any part of it.
