No PhD here, but I'd suggest reading as much content (books, articles, podcast) from Cal Newport as possible. He has a great set of processes and academia-specific advice, plus he has the career to back it up: he was able to crank out

How old is the kid? My 7 year old just got into "Kingdoms and Castles" -- nothing special but it was simple enough for him to get started (with plenty of new dynamics to consider as he figured things out). I recently finished Sid

Nice to see someone else mention domain knowledge. I know just enough about software/data engineering to be effective, but I have seen the greatest career growth by doubling down on my domain (generally finance).

Musicians will not know what to do with a docker image, even if you provide a bullet-proof script to start it. Not being mean to musicians, this is true about just about everyone (even some developers).

This is how I got my first consulting gig. Never heard a response from 99% of the messages, but I did find one guy who was open to an out-of-the-box arrangement and it ended up working out great for both of us. You will definitely have bett

I always get chills hearing the live viewing audience just losing their minds during these recordings. Must be an incredible feeling to be a part of such a massive accomplishment.

If they are selling something that everyone wants and there aren't enough GPUs to around, how else do you suggest allocating those GPUs to the public except by increasing the price?

I think you missed the point: OP is playing with friends and made a tool for such situations. Nobody suggested using this in a casino.

If you just want a REPL, Jupyter Notebooks are hard to beat. But if you also want a debugger, I'd recommend VS Code which has a flexible and useful debugger.

Totally agree. To your point, I personally have disabled watch history on YouTube so there is no recommendations feed at all. I just search for the videos I want or scroll through the new videos from my subscriptions. It is these kinds of t

Agreed -- best course of action is to develop a healthy relationship with the kid to avoid this situation all-together. Besides, I am pro dumbphone and don't plan on reading my kids' texts so I don't think these scenarios are

I had unrestricted (dial up) internet access from a very young age and I _do not_ think it was good for me. I don't think having that access in my pocket at all times would have helped either (I didn't get smartphone until I was o

I am pretty comfortable with him moving around w/o a cell device but it would give my wife peace of mind (which is fair). Plus the convenience of calling him home without driving around.

I don't think many kids will be bothered that their data was aggregated with thousands of other kids to set the weights in some model in the cloud.

Possibly -- but we're looking at a smartwatch to give our 7 y.o. _more_ freedom. If he has a way to call home and we can check on his location, I'm much more likely to set him loose in the neighborhood. Something for us to think a

This is about the same price as the Apple Watch SE w/ LTE -- seems tough for Google to compete with an established, reliable alternative at the same price point.

100%. My kid is not getting a smartphone until he's ~16 but we're looking at a restricted smart watch right now (a flip phone would also be acceptable but a watch is physically attached which is ideal for 7 year old).

If you are young, single, and can do this in the moral and legal clear -- then yes, do it. That being said, if you are young and single, you might want to look ahead 20 years and make sure that this would lead you to the end-state that you

Both sides would need to sign-off, if they do then OP would be fine. I suspect that a lot of over-employed people do not get explicit sign-off from both parties. That becomes a gray area.
