The issue comes down to economics. Parked domains are an investment, and I suspect this is the kind of business that is only profitable on the long tail - you only flip some exceedingly small percentage of your total inventory on a given ye

You're right and you're wrong. I think the delta in progressivism in each society is merely correlated with regressive VATs. Being largely unable to implement the same degree of redistribution (remember also that income taxes are higher in

I read the Forbes article and shared it amongst friends. I wasn't even aware it was originally a NYT piece; I thought it was original to Forbes. If you find yourself paginating your summary, you're definitely acting in bad faith.

I don't know. We clearly won't be defeating death in our lifetimes (and frankly, I'm not sure I would want to live forever stuck in my 80 year old body). Not only is death necessary for new generations, it kind of gives meaning to the time

Please do! And link to the rest of your research :)! I'm just talking from my own (very) limited personal experience, though, and the Greg Wilson video I linked to (albeit it's been two years since I last watched it).

Well… it depends on the paper! Some stuff might need more than a single course of background to fully understand. For more rudimentary papers, any undergrad course on discrete mathematics should get you started. I personally was forced to r

That's pretty much it. I got a nice piece of paper, but it's not like my day to day job involves much of what I learned during school.

To be fair, I didn't take offense to "self-taught computer scientist". I took offense to " every self-taught computer scientist". I'll be the first to admit that university is bullshit and mostly acts as a social signifier. Like I mentione

Speaking as an actually credentialed computer scientist, this list is ridiculous. First and for all, only one of these books is actually about theoretical computer science, and even then. Secondly, (feel free to disagree on this one) K&

It doesn't matter in the real world. I'm pretty sure no one even bothers checking if javascript is disabled. I know you can't access Facebook without it (or at least with Lynx); doesn't that exclude basically every web app?
