An interesting problem with making a MongoDB GUI is that a key feature of every SQL GUI -- a rich <table> of your data that you can use to see it and play with it -- won't work as well, because MongoDB doesn't have strict table defi

I believe there is a global version you can install that goes to Program Files and not AppData. Should help with your problem. Last I heard, it was in Google Pack.

I stayed at Chez JJ Menlo Park for a month (heck, I'm the one in the picture!) and while I agree with the other posters that $30/night for a shared room is not competitive, the reason I stayed so long was for the people. It was awesome to c

Yes, but, competition is fiercer. The beginning of a business day in the US is also the time when a lot of strong, interesting articles (from newspapers, blogs, etc) are being read by awakening HN'ers and then submitted. They can crowd out

When you link your bank account with Square, they have to send test deposits first to verify that it is indeed yours. These take up to 5 days, plus the time after that to actually transfer the overdrawn money. Asking Square to take the mone

Verification of a new account would take up to 5 business days, so it would be no faster than sending an ACH for the money.

I've noticed something similar. Playing strategy games (like Age of Empires) works great for me during downtime. They require your 100% full attention if you want to win, so they're very effective at wiping away whatever you were working on

Didn't Apple used to claim that Macs didn't get viruses? I can't remember. (This would be at least several years ago, when Mac malware was still fully theoretical.) It's possible they never stated it directly, and the phrase was spread by f

Even better: the US used to have a half-cent but they abolished it in 1857 due to its lack of value. With inflation, it's worth more than today's dime.

Right, it's like midway booths at the State Fair. You know the games are jaded and you only play for fun. But if you win and they don't give you the toy, then it's just not honest.
