Staff and above are fundamentally different jobs to Senior, which is why Senior is a terminal level at most companies. It's about scaling yourself through others, and not everyone wants to do that, and that's OK.

It tends to be better if I look out the window, it's the looking at a screen and my inner ear sensing the movement that mucks me up I think. Interestingly, I don't get motion sickness in VR, which is the opposite problem (movement

But marginal gains are important - we're not going to be able to do 10, 20, 30% reductions at once, it's going to be built up piecemeal.

I'm one of those people. I commute 50 mins each way on a Pendolino in the UK (into and out of London) and find that if I'm doing work on my laptop, or responding to emails on my phone as the train tilts I feel uncomfortable and di

It's not AS efficient, true, especially in the winter when the sun is lower in the sky, but it's not like it'll do nothing - and in the summer you get a longer generation period. You'll likely need more panels, but panel

Had my aerial removed last year - the little broadcast TV I watch is via Sky TV satellite, the rest is via streaming.

Hard disagree on most comfortable long distance aircraft. It's one of them, but not the only (and I'd argue not the most). The A350 beats it for me, plus, it doesn't have that pesky range issue that is causing Europe to Asia

Oh, I know. This is the same Capita pensions who recently suffered a data breach. I worked for a company who was acquired by them and, well, as you said, if you know, you know.

Have you travelled on an A350 yet? The A350, in my opinion, is more comfortable than both (and I'm a big proponent of the A380 and 787 for comfort)

QD-OLED beats LG panels on brightness without resorting to tricks (WOLED uses white pixels to increase brightness). Seeing them side by side with images of shiny metals such as gold, QD-OLED just looks far better. There's a reason Sony

There are - but you typically can't go wrong with a Bosch (or Miele). My Bosch is now coming up to 15 years old - I had to take it apart a year or so ago to replace the heating element as it finally blew, and the inside of the machine

It's worse in the UK. Paris to Napoli is a long distance. London to Birmingham walk up fair can be £150.

Shelly 1 and Plus 1 (the gen 2 device) allows you to separate the relay from the switch and expose both via API or MQTT. That's how I have my lights setup - normal light switches (switched live) will toggle the switch sensor which is p

That's true, but if your goal is low power, that's not necessarily going to be a bottleneck - even if you dedicate all 16 PCIe lanes to NVMe storage it's going to be more than fast enough for 99% of home server needs.

There's an Asus one that's available as well, the ASUS C246 PRO - it's about 250 GBP. I did build mine 2 years ago, so the 246 motherboards are less available now, the C252 is another option which will take you up to 11th gen

If you go back a few generations, the C246 chipset can be had on boards costing 200, and if you pair it with an i3-9100T you get ECC as well as pretty damn low power usage.

There already is negative priced energy in some (most?) markets. In the UK there's a provider called Octopus that have a tariff called "Agile" that is based on the 30 minute day ahead auctions - and it sometimes goes negative

This feels like something for the specific use case of heavy writes that are treating the DB like an append-only log, and then running analytics queries over the top. Something like a distributed metrics collection system.

My kitchen has engineered stone, and the people who came to fit it took precautions - all cutting was done outside (it was raining, but they had a marquee that went up), heavy duty vacuums to suck up any dust, wet cutting and wearing the pr

It's the same in the UK for the most part. OpenReach (which was "split off" from BT) puts the infrastructure in place, and OFCOM (our telecoms regulator) defines the price they can charge to ISP's for a connection - so y
