Yeah, I can see that. Just had some more thoughts on the topic and it wound up being an (admittedly) long post. This topic might be more or less discussed to death, by now.

I didn't know that... still humorous, though. ... You've also apparently misunderstood the post. I don't think the users are stupid. I think that the statement "Google and developers are stupid and/or have failed for allowing events like

For sure. And really... as staggering as the hundreds of comments were on RWW, a few hundred people is not really a large percentage of the FB user base. It's an incredibly small percentage.

I honestly don't think I actually disagree with what you're saying; I just still don't see this as a "failure" on Google's part, and that was the impetus for the post. I don't think Google should have been expected to anticipate this sort

D'oh. Okay, I am one of the stupid ones. Carry on. I can edit the title but not the URL of what was submitted; which is surely by design (and makes sense, you wouldn't want submitters altering the URL after the fact), so I can't fix it. Not

Okay, if I follow you, you're saying that because people are trying to use Google (or, let's just say, "Search") for a purpose other than it was intended, it's the wrong solution. That's really not too different from what I wrote; except I'

A TA in the one and only Comp Sci class I took at the U of Mn was pretty much a walking Scheme interpreter. So I imagine there are individuals who could write reasonably error-free code on paper before running it. I couldn't (quickly) find

I worked for Oracle for a couple years. The trend toward IE-dependency is (largely) because of time invested in a lot of in-house solutions where ActiveX was employed as part of the web app architecture. There may be other reasons, but I th

I did something similar in June of last year (left a job to begin contracting/consulting), and I didn't even have much in the way of extra expenses saved up. There have been a few times as the economy dipped that I wondered if I was crazy,

If you have access to trade journal type archives (IEEE, ACM, etc) you can find a lot of articles/studies on pair programming. Most of those that I've seen tend to be positive in their attitude toward pairing, though it's sometimes hard to

I think the only answer anyone can give you is whether or not a switch was worth it for _them_. Will a switch be worth it for you? I don't think anyone can answer that. You seem to have done your homework, so... maybe? To actually answer th

From how I read "the rules" it sounds like: * demoing a product/website: fail. * showing how something (which could be a startup product, but most likely isn't) works under the hood (code, etc.): win. So exposure is not the point; the hack(

I understand the reaction, but I have to echo the other commenters who say they've "gotten used to it". This feature annoyed me for the first day or two I used it. Then I began to expect this behavior, and actually began to use it. Now I pr

Yes -- anything by Smullyan is a pleasure to read. I think much of it is out of print, but should still be findable. "Lady or the Tiger" and "Satan, Cantor, and Infinity" were both good reads. "Alice," as well.

I would be more than happy to do that; I had every intention of taking detailed notes already, this would just be further incentive. Found you on Facebook, I'll be sending you an email shortly. Thanks _immensely_.

That's a great idea! I could do that -- extensive notes & summaries for sure, and it's possible I could beg or borrow a camera. Not sure if they allow filming or how the sound would be, but it's worth a try. Good call.
