Uh, the green bars also mark the change in price from $399 to $200. Don't you think that might have been partly responsible?

Rollover doesn't have much meaning, but the start of a touch is analogous to the :active pseudoclass in CSS.

I would guess that while games are very high grossing, gaming is pretty well understood and is unlikely to be a breakout new category of application on the iPad. For games, it's just going to be another handheld platform, maybe incrementall

So do you contend that there are other companies that could build a device comparable to the iPad? Who are they? Why aren't we hearing about their competitive offerings?

I think Apple has decided they don't like multitasking on its merits. You can only do one thing at a time, so why run more than one application? Instead, they're putting their effort into making application launch and exit very fast, and ca

This is especially funny if you're a climber, because South Butt is actually meaningful (in context, it's common to abbreviate "buttress" to "butt"). Many of the world's great climbing and mountaineering routes are on S facing buttresses.

There are still problems. For example, if USV is typical and 1/3 of venture-backed companies are being attacked by patent trolls, then the premiums for this insurance would have to be extremely high -- enough to cover a third of the cost of

The thing I like most about this post is that he doesn't know what percentage of their portfolio founders have degrees. That must be because they didn't ask, or checked on it while they were doing the funding, but don't really care anymore,

This is the same strategy that Sirius used when they tried to 'break' normal radio by signing Howard Stern. That deal seems to have worked out pretty well for Stern, but was a disaster for Sirius. It might work just as well for Bing!

I have a hypothesis about this change: that in-app purchases were not, in fact, being adopted as rapidly as Apple hoped, and this is their response. Adding free apps opens up a lot of new uses for in-app purchases, and should drive more usa

Huge increase in user growth rate this year means most users are new users. New userbase + long average time between early tweets -> most users have < 10 tweets.

Well, a native app might be cool here, because you'd be able to get at the Address Book. If I gave you a list of my contacts, could you automatically call them all into the conference once I joined?

There are many possible explanations for that phenomenon. I wouldn't necessarily assume malice. Rate-on-delete tends to produce a lot of one star ratings, especially for free apps: if they liked the app, they wouldn't be deleting it. For pa

Supposedly airplane cabins are kept at the equivalent of about 6000 ft above sea level, which would make a month on a plane only a little worse for you than moving to Denver.

Seems like magazine journalism is much less susceptible to 1,2, and occasionally 3. I wonder how much of the missing information he describes is due to the lack of time and words that journalists face when they're working in a short cycle.

That's troubling. I've been thinking that it's OK if the ratings are strict or inflated, as long as there's no stigma attached to a 17+ rating. But a warning before you buy certainly stigmatizes 17+ apps. I bet lots of people hesitated.

Yeah, you get more granular control over the built-in apps. Why would it make the policy better or more consistent if that ability were taken away?
