I've seen a few large tech companies where internal "bookmarks" where all just shortlinks you had to remember (using golinks.io or another internal config). So for example http://go/project-X , go/JIRA-12

Hearing about Wikipedia's deceptive fundraising messaging [0] made me question all donations to large non-profits -- but I guess a 30-people org is a different matter. Plus, Signal doesn't seem to be aggressive about it. [0] http

I got the impression that his web3 post [0] only talks about token incentives, DAOs and other decentralisation for decentralisation's sake. There's no mention of MobileCoin, which I gather he just sees as tool to facilitate anonym

Chat apps are incredibly commoditised. It also seems natural that improvements to huge tech platforms today takes more time than anything previously. But for smaller applications that innovatively solve a new problem, feature parity shouldn

You mean the smart contract would sign the response? Signatures by Infura or the node client would not tell you anything, you're already trusting them by using them. Much of the infrastructure seems quite immature, with lots of hard pr

Your phone is not always online, running a node on it would mean frequent synchronisation every time you want to do something.

I think Moxie's critique of web3 concerns the decentralised aspect (DAOs, token economies, smart contracts, NTFs etc). He probably sees MobileCoin (which is built on the Stellar blockchain) just as a solution to fast anonymous payments

Your distinction aligns with Moxie's point that most people do not want to run their own servers. Web 2 made user-generated content easier, so more people used it. > "user-generated content [...] is dead for several years now&q

Not having an archive of links may be a feature -- relieving you of the responsibility to decide what to read.

How would you compare Amazon to working at a startup? Pretty often things are on fire in small startups too, but possibly people feel more responsible for fixing things.

But if every team has to wait for planning from a centralized decision maker who doesn't have all the context, they won't get any important work done as well. Or they loose the motivation that comes with owning services yourself.

I think some of the value of long articles is simply that they are long -- if you can get into them, they get you away from news feeds long enough so that the effect feels calming. Regardless of actual content.

For me, the archive seems by far the most valuable part of longform.org. I'd guess no-one has even approximately read most of the best articles they recommended in the past. This is now the chance to get to them and re-read the best on

Your point applies to much more than long-form articles. We spend so much time subscribing and scrolling through information sources just to be "aware" things exist (it's the worst for news). If we'd really want to read

Well, what does "energetic output" mean? If I understand the core point of the article correctly, radiant heat only heats the surface of objects not the air, so it will require less heat for the same effect. I don't how to pu

To be fair, the article is quite long so I for example gave up reading after a while. Which from my brief skimming seems like what the author advocates for -- reading less things but more deeply.

That would be interesting, as an unbiased window into life back then (if any text still exist). If the post gets 10 upvotes on HN it will automatically turn up on hn.lindylearn.io/years. It's like our collective library.

Haha I am sorry. The idea is to come back to the site when you're curious about something, and be ok with not knowing everything (like with a library). That's different to how we consume a lot of our news, so just an experiment. A
