Mhh, it looks like that article was written in 2020 not 1386 though? The site only includes posts that were at least supposedly written further back in the past.

I have thought about this, but not am not sure how to automatically detect if a site is dead. Sometimes it still returns HTML but with permission errors, redirects etc. I don't want to redirect every link to archive.org. Do you have an

For me it often is up-to-the minute news vs no news. I think the format kind of encourages reporting on everything, not on what's important. The best heuristic I found to decrease wasted time and being more happy is to not read any new

Which world events do you consider important and directly relevant to yourself? I find that things like election dates, covid restrictions etc still get to us some way (or we look them up when needed). Nearly all of it is irrelevant. “To be

Thank you! Most of the data can be queried and aggregated through the HN BigQuery dataset [0], and I run a periodic Node.js function to poll more recent posts from the API. The filtered posts are hosted in Firestore for most of the pages +

Oh, https://hn.lindylearn.io/years/1320 only shows things written exactly 1320, there is no "decade view" right now. That's an interesting idea though, maybe I can put it at https://hn.lindyle

A few people must have had this idea over the years. HN is the only website I know where old articles get regularly reposted. I actually discovered http://jsomers.net/hn/ while building this site, as it turns up when y

It happened to me when I enabled some of the optional annoyances filter lists in uBlock Origin. Things like sign-up pages not working, full-page cookie modals you can't quit etc.

Yes, to be precise the year refers to the original date the text was written. Hopefully it has not totally changed its meaning since then.

What do you mean? Yes the articles itself are old, but the discussions around them are new. Which is the interesting part -- "timeless" content that's relevant not just the week it is published.

If any network gets significant market share (like Google or Cloudflare), they can probably still follow you around by correlation of IP, user agent, routing location etc.

I often wonder how many people block analytics, since it's the default AFAIK in uBlock Origin. For HN it must be the majority. You'll not be able to block the next generation of server-side analytics tools like Cloudflare Analytic

It depends on what you're after? For me I would say The Lean Startup, On Writing Well, and Atlas Shrugged for very different reasons.

Interesting idea! It's somewhat hard to come up with good search queries on the spot, but I will try this out the next time I'm dissatisfied with Google Search (which happens often).
