QBasic gave me my start in PC programming when I was a freshman in high school. When I was younger, I learned to code on my Commodore 64. I loved QBasic so much I saved up every penny I could to buy the QuickBasic Compiler. One thing I m

I always hear people talk about "it's scalable" in terms of scaling UP. To me, the value is in scaling DOWN. If you have a function that doesn't run continuously, there's value in executing it as a Lambda instead

Li-Fraumeni Syndrome is a genetic mutation of p53 that makes you more susceptible to various types of cancers. It's rare, in terms of number of people confirmed to have it, but is likely far more prevalent because it's not genera

My son befriended one of the leading African elephant researchers who is now one of the big wigs at Disney's Animal Kingdom. When we met him, he explained how researchers used this knowledge to teach African villages how to become bee

Look at the Quarkus framework. It's designed with Graalvm native in mind, so it knows how to handle Jackson, AWS, etc. and compile them to a native binary. I'm using it in production with a native-compiled Lambda that calls othe

I believe that Apple's AppStore Connect API uses HATEOAS. That's pretty non-trivial.

100% true! If you don’t support SAML (and occasionally OIDC) then you’re not an enterprise product. Period. It is practically mandatory these days. Additionally, if your product has any provisioning requirements you may need to support

Great looking tool. To me, though, the big roadblock to marketing is... how??? I'd love some tutorials or blog posts on marketing strategies, copywriting, and some of the other aspects of marketing that introverts or solo developers

I really liked CDE on my Solaris x86 box when I was in college. I'd love to see a "modernized" version of it. Modern renderers w/acceleration, slightly updated UI but keeping with the general feel of CDE, etc. I love

That's a shame. It's a great IDE for server-side Swift, which is sorely needed. Xcode is dreadful, and macOS-only.

And, considering what other PCs looked like at the time, they were beautiful machines! Everything else was just a beige box.

I absolutely LOVED running Solaris 7/8 on my x86 desktop in college. It made me feel like a "real" developer. Even though CDE and MWM look positively ancient by today's standards, there's still something about the

There is a SCIM plugin for Keycloak, though. We've made use of it and had a good experience. I'll have to dig up the Github project for it. I don't recall the name off the top of my head.

Keycloak does a good bit of this and is open source. It's an outstanding project. It's my go-to for anything that requires login, especially for its SAML/OIDC support.

Use AWS Amplify and you're talking about a matter of minutes. Maybe an hour? It really accelerates development of apps like that, whether native or web.

Swift, to me, is such an elegant language to write in. I do mostly Java by trade, so I’m spoiled by such a huge ecosystem of open source libraries to pull in. If Swift can develop a comparable ecosystem it would really gain adoption.

I love this. Although Swift is still primarily an iOS language, I really love programming with it server-side. It's got a long way to go to be as useful on the server as some other languages, but it's got a lot of potential. Th

In humans, a defect in the TP53 gene that leads to genetic predisposition to cancer is called Li-Fraumeni Syndrome. It explains a lot of people who have a strong family history of cancer or those who get it early in childhood.

Fair point. The Keycloak folks are working on porting the project over to the Quarkus framework which will allow for ahead-of-time compilation and a DRASTIC decrease in resource utilization. In my own experience porting apps over to Quark
