There are only two hard things. This is an aside, but I think that "index" is the wrong name. I wish that "index" meant you start counting at 1 (which everyone outside of CS does) and "offset" was the name for

I've used Backbone, Angular, React, Stimulus, etc. and I've finally hit on Vue. I've been using Vue 3 for the past couple of months and it really hits the sweet spot for me. This section ( https://vuejs.org/v2&

I've played this in the past and it was fine. I suspect it is getting a HN hug right now.

Yes! 1. What if something goes wrong? 2. How do I test for handling success/error? They never address this stuff.

I wish they'd document how to write tests for this stuff. Also, I wish they'd provide an example with multiple moving parts.

Organizing things chronologically doesn't make them "periodic." I also don't see any particular patterns to the organization.

I was expecting a pattern, but there wasn't one; one of the two classic problems in computer science, I guess.

I'm to the point where I'll buy a game even if it isn't supported (yet) because I assume it will be eventually. They really have been doing a great job. All of my computers are windows-free now.

I like React a lot and I sometimes use it for my own projects (e.g. I just finished https://techadequiz.com/ ) However, I don't think React does "add some Javascript behavior to my Rails views (or backend framework

I am an experienced web dev and went into Stimulus excited to have something that seemed straightforward, but was disappointed. Vue has the flexibility to do SSR HTML with a bit of javascript for behavior way that works well for me. Just be

I worked with Stimulus for about a month and found it to be frustrating: 1. There is not a lot of documentation 2. They don't provide any testing guidelines, the best I've found is hand-wavy test-with-a-browser stuff 3. Everything

I worked with a bunch of "millennials" at my previous job (the entire social media team). This is anecdotal, but, yeah, a lot of them were worried about having a stable career first before they could commit to marriage.

I don't do much Javascript, but I need choose a front-end for a project I'm working on. It looks like Vue has an official router, an official store (Vuex), official testing tools, and an official browser plugin. I assume that ever

At my last job, we just dynamically generated the GraphQL schema from our Rails models and our permission system. Once we had that in place we just developed as usual.

I've seen a lot of SPA vs. "JavaScript sprinkles" arguments lately and I think it is a false dichotomy. You can add JavaScript interactions to a page, to existing HTML, (take a look at Vue for example) without committing to J

Wow, this takes me back. My first job used OpenACS and AOLServer. We ended up converting everything to Ruby on Rails (1.16) because development had slowed so much and it was hard to find new developers, documentation, and other resources. T
