Manufacturing consent online is dependent on the rules of the game. Russian-bot-syndrome is a fraud issue, in this case a state actor manipulating the 1-person-1-voice assumption of the game. If we're making a marketplace metaphor, the

GP's point comes off like an argument against pro-maskers which makes the point disingenuous. Their criticism is that scientific discussion stopped when the topic became politicized, but they're taking a political shot at the same

To take the religion analogy further, I think people use information, not just to support views they want to hold, but to organize. Q anon is a community. The accuracy of the information is much less relevant than the membership and the mis

Completely agree. The term "experts" in that context frustrates me -- and I think you're highlighting this with "so called" -- because I want experts who actually fulfill that role responsibly. The only expertise wh

Do you find the Paradox of Intolerance to be a dangerous idea? The premise is that maximalist tolerance means tolerating intolerant ideas, and that there's a risk that a movement of intolerance can form which destroys the culture of to

It's newsworthy because there's a pretty significant debate occurring in the US about how private companies can moderate speech in their spaces. Section 230 of the Communications Decency Act is being actively relitigated by both p

People like to rip on YouTube for the recent child-protections but there was some dark shit going on, stuff like uploading Peppa Pig videos spliced with NSFL footage. The youths love YouTube, you can't take that lightly.

I think the situation is more complex than you're asserting. Unless a program has stopped development, it is not a product -- it is an ongoing work that's more akin to a service being provided by the developers. UI changes, bugfix
