When going frame-by-frame you tend to go back and forth. You can preload and cache, but that leans a lot more on your player and hardware. Yes, you do get every frame but some frames may be very "muddy" because of compression.

I'm not surprised and I don't think it's the fault of browsers or the implementation. Delivery codecs have a lot of optimizations around playing forward. There are a whole other class of video codecs designed around the nee

What sucks is that server-side performance is their problem, and client-side performance is your problem. It becomes their problem if growth slows or if users leave, but it's often too late.

It depends what they're using. Often, the cross platform libraries are abstractions that just call the native functions for that platform. Even in that case it's difficult because differences to that platform can cause minor lay

It drives me nuts when you find a forum post and they never reported back. Or it's a terse "I figured it out." I try really hard not to do that for internal or public forums. The odds are better than you think that you'

I've heard people observe how many support lines have transformed into these impeccably polite, but completely unempowered people--which is more frustrating than being on hold or getting stuck in an automated menu loop because their pr

I had "benevolent" in scare-quotes when typing up the reply. Since the whole point was that this is not an example of a healthy, competitive market I didn't want to be too over the top about it.

Most people in these threads have been complaining about wanting a mini-tower from Apple at a rock-bottom price. Personally, I'd love one, too, and the Mac Pro has never been a consideration to me because of the price. Unfortunately,

I guess you can be upset at the price, but people have been asking Apple for a mini-tower for decades and they're obviously not interested in offering one. I'm not sure why anyone would think the Mac Pro redesign would be it.

Thank you for bringing up "information symmetry." I feel like this is always missing in discussions of free markets and capitalism. To me, information asymmetry is what most regulations are trying to address (package labeling, t

I wish we knew the truth behind this. In my opinion Apple is losing more than Nvidia and Nvidia seems to be trying harder to make this work than Apple. From my understanding, Apple has been writing/maintaining GPU drivers. They'

I'm curious what professional GPU use cases you have in mind? I'm not as familiar, but ML has a pretty good lead with Nvidia/CUDA. I work in VFX. Nvidia Quadro cards have been fairly standard for more than a decade and did

I find this feud odd (unless Nvidia is being unreasonable--which hasn't been shown). I really feel like Apple would benefit more than Nvidia by the partnership. Because of things like CUDA, there are whole domains people can only use
