As a counterpoint, I imagine the amount of money the US government already spends on MS Office could fund development of something as good or better than Office, while giving it away free to the rest of society improving productivity. Altho

The only reason I remember that use is because it sounded out of place to me. This posting [1] puts the usage change from around 1880-1930. I've always taken the modern usage to mean unusually fine/magnificent. [1] https:/&#

I always think of the famous Hindenburg crash tape. "it's a terrific crash" 1937 for those, like me, that weren't sure of the decade. https://genius.com/Herbert-morrison-hindenburg-disaster-broa...

Once is generally enough. I did it awhile back and have tried to reference LFS for major changes that have been adopted since I last did it like EFI and LUKS. I'm glad to see it getting updates.

I think a bit of masochism is the point. I did it once to fill in all of the gaps and cement all the dependencies when putting together a system. That kind of knowledge helps when you're trying to do server maintenance but try and keep

I delivered for Pizza Hut a dozen+ years ago. The store I was at only did delivery and take out. We didn't have routing software, but it was really easy to divvy up and group orders looking at a map. I'm sure it would be more diff

I think AppleCare+ is one of the rare insurances that can sometimes be a good value, but after looking over the numbers for phones I scratch my head. Looking at a broken screen: $80 upfront and $30 per incident -> $110 [1] $129 out of wa

That's true, but that's an argument about the iPhone and not Photos. On the iPhone, there's literally a switch to instead save as jpg/h.264...which do have their own patent problems (there have been various successful p

But this wasn't "allowed" or endorsed by Apple. It was a third-party company doing something underhanded. Is there some reason Dropbox would be more trustworthy on Linux? I think the "lame overreach" hurts the credi

What are your use-cases for image search? Mine are pretty straightforward; find a higher quality/uncropped version or to find the source (article, recipe, or photo set). Use case #1 I click through save and exit. Use case #2 I engage l

I haven't followed the specifics, either, but it looks like it was introduced back in March. When I reached out to my Senators and Reps back then I got a reply from my House Rep (who I believe was supportive of the bill). The bill is c

I don't think that's quite a given. I don't think Apple has changed as much as you're implying. When OSX was first released, even though it was Unix-based, most people were pretty confident it wouldn't ship with a T
