Essentially similar to “after N throws of a coin, what will the difference be between heads and tails?”. It will most likely be away from 0, and probably large.

This useless lack of clarity in design is clearly an example of lack of work ethics. "Boss, this idea is shit and I am not implementing it. Either you change or I go." And before leaving, an email to the boss's boss or to the

What is the purpose of the windshield in a car? What is the purpose of text in a screen? Does something really help that purpose? Anything that does not is WRONG.

Well, the change of sign in the correlation looks to have happened in a very narrow time window, so… sour grapes from Krugman?

Implementations of IEEE-754 can differ between machines, and the order of operations in a library/compiled function can also be different. It is not entropy, it is the nature of floating-point arithmetic.

This is a place where uou can use either. There is IIRC a letter of JRR tolkien where he discusses this very issue. "The crew" can be thouth of as "a set of people" (so you can say The crew has) or "severa people&qu

Well, I did not want to say "Mathematics" because it sounded a bit exaggerated. Of course you are right.

Totally right. It should be "structure". Maths is just its description in a specific language.

Gains and losses are measured in % not in quantity because a dollar (or ant currency) has no fixed value. Sorry: I intended to reply to the grandparent.

I guess you are conflating "democracy" and "republic", as Jefferson (?) pointed out. The key thing is not democracy but the separation of powers, and the rule of law, which is more or less what a "republic" is

Order as in "first, second, third", whereas counting is "none, one, two". This is not a formal distinction, it is a conceptual one for things (not mathematical models).

Actually, the duality arises from counting (there can be 0 items) and ordering (there is only a 1st item), conceptually. Which is why the year 2000 can and cannot be the start of the 3rd millenium, for instance.

I think (but may be wrong) that you are thinking metamathematics is a part of mathematics, which (to my knowledge) it is not.

Romario (soccer player from long ago) is a prime example of this. One of the best scorers ever, he was pretty much static most of the time. Until.

In Spain I guess it is because SMS have never been free (or similar). It took off well before wifi was widespread in homes and offices, IIRC. Edit: it costs me around .10€ to send an SMS...

You are totally right but "convex" is a very strong assumption (so strong that the shape is determined by its harmonics). Very strong.

You are not alone. Composition and the general idea of type is enough for most of us. You do not need Schopenhauer to discover that life is hard, or Hegel to know that opposites exist and sometimes their relation creates something different

Let me suggest everyone here reading Nadhezda Mandelstam’s memoirs, “Hope against hope”, and “Hope abandoned”. A lot to learn about people who “only wanted to make everybody happy” (she includes herself in that group). Amazing.
