In a traditional CNN you use the same convolution kernel across an entire image. Here you do the same but you convolve the features of a person (pixel) with the feature of its neighbors, but those change depending on the network. Drawbacks

Another theory (possibly complementary) is networking. Golfing / frequenting private clubs can greatly improve CEOs visibility among other CEOs.. I believe Mark Newman's network theory book mention exactly this example.

Agreed. With the enourmous cuts in science funds nowadays one can make a big difference by, for instance, fueling cash into research in virtually any area. The achievements can still be watched within a lifetime.

Yes but with a caveat. Many of the artists I discovered via Spotify / Google Music make pennies from these sites. The truth is that unless you're buying an album (1) or other merchandise, you're not contributing significantly
