CMU's "Great Theoretical Ideas in Computer Science" (formerly known as "How to Think Like a Computer Scientist") dates back to at least 2003 and possibly earlier. It's fairly infamous. It would not be surprising if MIT's drew inspiration fr

What does running on Amazon mean (in 2006)? Remember, the company is officially Amazon.com, Inc. , i.e. the ecommerce site turning tens of billions in revenue. Here's an excerpt from the Businessweek cover story[1] a few weeks after EC2's

Agreed. There's a trend to invent items to fill these confusing pullaway lists. Not to pick on Sharypic (it's delightful), but the menu shows only two things: News and Events. Remember, when you copy Facebook, you inherit their constraints.

Knowing little about trademark law, I'm wondering if you considered trademark dilution [1]. It appears to contradict most of what you've said, e.g. must operate in the same market and prove the offender is profiting. The rules may be differ

My wife and my . Correcting grammar isn't cool. Any chance there'll be a `Best free intro book` link of sorts to curate all the textbooks available in PDF form? Sometimes it's hard to find quality free content like `Linear Algebra Done Wro

If you look up the iPad 1 column, you'll see those two figures listed for the first question. I'm guessing those first rows got copypasted and somebody forgot to change the new rows to "na."

On a related note, I feel like the iPhone is less "eager" to rotate after being held in the same orientation for a while. E.g. I browse Safari in landscape mode for ten minutes, rotate the phone to portrait, and it takes a few extra seconds

When you talk about creating serious value, you're not talking about value in general, but the value derived from the money supply. Not that there's anything dirty about money. But value can come from other places. For some people, it's har

You're right, the command line isn't dead, just as the Finder isn't going to die. But like the command line, the Finder will asymptotically approach uselessness for most people. iTunes just manages music better ; iPhoto manages photos bet

I don't understand where the data for this graph came from. The 2000 Census? It claims online electronics sales of $1.3 billion. But Newegg alone sold $1.3 billion... in 2005. http://www.allbusiness.com/business-planning-structures/star...

Wow, I'm surprised Apple didn't just buy Delicious Library outright, like they bought SoundJam MP for iTunes, or Cover Flow for Cover Flow, or plenty of other small developers for features.

It's probably both. Couldn't find the source, but I remember it having to do with the OS X driver API and how it doesn't let you do the same kind of low-level voodoo that makes Flash work on Windows. And with limited resources, Adobe probab

"It's not as stupid as it sounds." - Lol. IE8 isn't that bad. Sure it's slow, but most everything you'd need is implemented. I don't like the haughty tone of the contest, but meh. Firefox fans have run similar campaigns, e.g. http://wedo
