So you all knew about optimizations 10x a data scientist salary, but didn't act on them? Actually good that the company hired him then.

Seems like the fts3_tokenizer was disabled in a 2016 release: https://www.sqlite.org/releaselog/3_11_0.html (due to security concerns) Did PHP7 still use an older version at the time of this talk (late 2019)? I agree w

It's very annoying when the applications use sqlite with encryption. That is not open source, so regular language bindings can not be used.

"Having only 100 connections probably does more harm than good" Is this true? Does anyone care about this? Serious question. Should I close my read-only Twitter account as well?

It really is astounding. Given the amount of testing sqlite receives, one cannot help but wondering whether writing a database is beyond the reach of our current development tools.

Well, if this process had been written in C, this may have been a security issue, so Java is still an improvement.

I think disease-carrying species live together with non-disease-carrying species, which, if correct, would mean an ecological impact of effectively zero. We humans have a long, long "tradition" of exterminating species and we know

Agreed. A large part of Pipenv's raison d'être is resolving dependencies. Yet it seems to install packages in random order. This sometimes fails, so it retries failures at the end. We actually used this in production before switch

The ecological systems would likely be fine; the mosquitoes responsible for diseases are a minority. But that is beside the point and does not matter. What matters are 700,000 human lives annually. It's tragic really. If we had these d

Yes, I think you are right. If the price were somehow fixed at $1000, the difficulty would eventually be adjusted so that miners would barely break even. Same if the price were somehow fixed at $100,000.

Personally, I think it makes perfect sense. Take two sets A and B. If we can assign every element in A to a different one in B, we say that |A|≤|B|. Makes perfect sense for normal, finite sets, right? As it happens, this definition extends

That is problematic if your service is on 24/7 and new version clients have to talk to old version servers and vice versa. Better to use protobufs at this point.

Perhaps not very different, but each problem formulation has its own complication. For column generation, specifically, the routine that generates the columns incorporates a lot of problem-specific information. The rest of the solver is mor
