Perhaps not exactly cloning? In any case, this should arguably be legal.

Never saw that during my time at Google. That's not really how their system works. We engineers doing the interviews do not have that kind of power.

From the experience in our code base, yapf produces higher-quality results, but is much slower. Black removes any additional parentheses added to enable a line split at a reasonable position (such as "and"). With those removed, bl

I think it is important for embedded, but sure, not for mobile and desktop. App start time being instant is much more important.

Exactly, I wait almost a minute for my Chromecast to start every day.

I think you make a great point. I agree that waiting for my computer to boot is a non-issue today. (Other latency certainly isn't) But my Chromecast takes a very long time to start, modern TVs, Blurays, mobile apps etc.

100ms is too slow for e.g. a pen on a touch screen. The ink will lag behind the pen. But for worst case in general, not bad.

I think it's really sad, because a system would likely have to be redesigned from scratch to make this happen. So it seems unlikely to happen. But I'm not an OS expert, maybe it is possible.

A computer and OS that boots in 100ms. Every user action gives a response in 10ms.

Thanks, I always assumed that a unique ptr was identical to a regular pointer under the hood.

What is the "runtime overhead involved in passing unique_ptr by value"? The reference is a 1h YouTube video.

In C++, exceptions are often faster than manual error checking when errors are rare. But C++ does not provide a stack trace.

But if you are a Boltzmann brain (Bb), it would be a very big coincidence if all of your memories were internally consistent. Since they presumably mostly are, you are likely not a Bb.

Yes, working for Google or Apple in Sweden pays very, very well compared to other companies. This is not widely known by engineers. I wish more people would talk about salaries here.

Lots of these things have been written about AI. Kasparov wrote a decade ago that Poker would be out of reach from computers because bluffing was inherently human. That statement was easy to refute mathematically, but I don't know abou

This is the only sane way of using C++. All C++ dependencies in the same repo, because there is no standard C++ ABI. I am compiling my C++ codebase with gcc, clang, emscripten to wasm, visual studio. Impossible if all dependencies are not p

Having worked at Google, agree 100%. I think people at Google expect people to look at the commit message more than at other places because it's so easy.
