It's crazy how poor the financial data provider offerings out there are. Most financial data is riddled with inconsistencies, wildly overpriced, and in esoteric formats. Simply ingesting financial data in a reliable manner requires sig

Why on earth would anyone want to be on the hook for liability like this for an unpaid maintenance job? Open source licenses state this clearly: "THE SOFTWARE IS PROVIDED "AS IS", WITHOUT WARRANTY OF ANY KIND"

Part of the problem is that they are developed and tested on top of the line laptops on internal networks. Even if they are also performance tested on other devices, the developers rarely feel the pain

What is this 'flagship design' nonsense. The notch is a horrible idea, iphone or not. Glass everywhere makes it less grippable. And now we see the complete lack of originality in the phone industry as the manufacturers compete to

I'm more angry at google for removing them from the pixel than for apple. I want to vote with my dollars, but at the moment the options for phones with headphone jacks and no crapware preinstalled are exceedingly limited.

In the Baroque Cycle by Neal Stephenson, part of the story takes place around the China galleons. Definitely worth a read if you find this sort of thing exciting.

Can you give some examples? Normally I find that location data makes my user experience worse, for example assuming the language I speak based on the country, or redirecting me away from the url I was trying to go to.

I asked for a full facebook data export, and this data wasn't in the bundle they gave me.

I wonder if it's so they can later experiment with winglets, which would fold inwards when vertical, rather than outwards which a downward fold would mandate.

The value of gulp / webpack et al are the plugins. I've had success in several JS projects using make in combination with the shell version of a lot of these plugins and npm scripts. There is value in both approaches.

Why? Just because a non-typed language is dominant, doesn't mean that typed languages disappear.

You did attack them personally. The JS module ecosystem is far ahead of most other languages for web stuff. Most of the time the modules are perfectly sufficient, and if not, patching them is also easy. Sure there's a lot of glue code

Transpilation is the number one reason I've seen that makes maintenance of older projects hard. The fact that JS didn't standardize on a module syntax until far too late means that we're forced into a transpilation cycle to b

Oh man, I hate these articles as they bring out the trolls. Javascript is a great language because it allows you to develop incredibly fast (scripting language) for a platform that runs everywhere (the web). It used to be far simpler, but I

A good reason would be dollar cost averaging. If you have a monthly transaction split across 3 index funds, you're over 30 trades per year.

I strongly disagree. Their reporting is convoluted, their interface terrible, their support is horrible. I've tried half a dozen brokerages over time, and IB is by far the worst.
