It's faster than find in that I don't need to read the manpage every time I use it.

There's only a small amount of JavaScript used on GOV.UK and everything degrades gracefully.

Couldn't they just include a dedicated NFC fob? Almost back to the idea of carrying keys around!

Crystal's standard library is also a close match for Ruby's. I do Ruby every day and was able to familiarise myself with Crystal in a few hours. It's definitely lacking in the web ecosystem department but the language is a jo

Or when Mary Beard was cut from the American release of Civilisation. She, a world-renowned scholar and classicist, was replaced by Liev fucking Schreiber.

I'd agree. Took me a couple of reads to make sense of it. Keep the puns, I just think with a bit of adjustment the examples would be easier to understand.

I also searched Tiktok and my first result was a BBC News story called 'What is Tiktok' from 1991! I suspect it's a typo in the publish date field.

I was explaining how we used to add drop shadows on web pages to one of the younger members of our team a month or two ago and they found it hilarious. An image sliced up into several bits, a table (often embedded in another table) and vari

Yeah I also hit the XSD complexity ceiling on occasion. Most of what we used it for back in the early-mid 00s was quite simple though and it did make much of our work simpler.

Every time I hear someone talking about validating JSON I just think about how, despite its flaws, XSD is actually pretty decent despite being 20 years old.

Or the user? There's always a hypervocal minority in any a GNOME related thread claiming that GNOME 3 was a regression, it has too much padding, it's too slow, it takes too much memory, it doesn't allow you to configure somet

Apache was just used as an example but the most popular web servers all support SSI. I wouldn't suggest using it for anything complex but it's ideal for inserting common headers and footers into static HTML. Plus, it's using

I love Kitty because it does the things I think are important really well.. It's well-maintained, extremely fast, always responsive, easy to configure, supports ligatures and IBus.

100% this, there's no good reason to do this in JS. Apache has supported Server Side Includes forever. All you need to do is drop an 'include' in your HTML file and Apache will inject the contents in the right place. &l

Same for me, both my X1 Carbon and Precision Pro (2013 with Ubuntu pre-installed) worked flawlessly. ThinkPad battery life could be a bit better, but that's my fault for choosing the 4k one.

Yeah - I've used Zeal a bit and like it. I spent a bit of time looking at the devhelp2 format and they look quite straightforward, maybe writing a converter utility is the way to go.

I am a huge fan of GNOME and it's received lots of polish over recent releases. The one app I'd really love to see is a documentation browser like Dash. I plan on having a go at writing it when my current contract comes to an end

Amazing how much you can accomplish in a single rack. If you'd have asked me before reading this I'd have fully expected a far bigger and more complicated setup.
