I was in Rome a while back and wanted to go see Michelangelo's David. Searched for "David of Michelangelo" in Google Maps for Android. Clicked details. The main detail photo's aspect ratio is very tall and--because the p

Anyone have any thoughts on whether this could be implemented on the GPU? (e.g. CUDA) Especially encoding.

Yes, absolutely. ZFS snapshots are immutable, such that once a snapshot is created nothing can change it (until to destroy the snapshot). Not designed to help with ransomware, but is a perfect use case they'd protect against. (You also

I agree, I watched the video and read the FAQ and I'm still not 100% sure what you're building. Edit: I hadn't read your original post at http://daltoncaldwell.com/what-twitter-could-have-been . I just read it and now it makes sense. I h

Is my comment above re: needing $5-10k out of pocket pretty accurate? Also, how much time do you find yourself spending on program overhead (preparing receipts, meetups/mentoring/trips/presentations/etc)?

Remember, you'll need $5-10k USD to front for airline tickets, housing, etc before the reimbursement process kicks in. Supposedly it can take 1-2 months after arrival to see your first reimbursement.

I gotta say, ZFS+KVM sure seems like an awesome combo. Any ideas how this is different than SmartOS?

Yes, I think so, except its the equivalent of a new Solaris/OpenSolaris distribution (from which Illumos derives).

Don't they have to patent this now that the US patent system is first-to-file? Otherwise, others would be free to patent it and start charging Twitter royalties.

I was surprised that the Storm on Demand SSD instances didn't seem do better (really only ~2x as fast as spinning disks?). Turns out this is some weird bundle of benchmarks. I spun up a storm-ssd-3gb instance and ran bonnie++ on it. Resul
