I have two at 4x4TB, so it's still much too expensive to go SSD. I was planning an SSD cache with 2x512GB SSDs in RAID1 for the next build but now I'm wondering how long it will take to be able to go all SSD.

As usual this link shows me a Chromecast with no explanation. It's already strange how they segment by geography within the EU but breaking the links like this instead of just saying it's unavailable in your location is broken. I&

I was having a look at NVMe SSDs yesterday and noticed the cost per TB premium is now only ~4x over hard drives for a much faster device. How quickly should I expect my home NAS to be feasibly SSD only? I'd probably dump hard drives an

From the original announcement email by Linus: > It is NOT protable (uses 386 task switching etc), and it probably never will support anything other than AT-harddisks, as that's all I have :-(. And he meant it too, as later in the t

The definition of FUD is that you are spreading fear, uncertainty and doubt as a tactic not that you yourself are afraid, uncertain or have any doubts.

You've just switched to a totally different discussion. I don't agree with it either, because I see everyone around me in home-office, not even developers just workers in a normal corporate environment, that can definitely use tha

Your contention was that the extra performance provided by AMD was not usable, not that it wouldn't win in the market. So we were indeed discussing who had the best tech, even if that's not all that matters for commercial success.

All Intel options on the T14s are 4 core. The only other AMD option is still 6 core. The slower AMD part is still twice as fast as the fastest Intel chip: https://www.cpubenchmark.net/compare/Intel-i7-10610U-vs-AMD-...

Maybe for 64 that's true but for mainstream usage getting 8 cores in a laptop instead of 4 is a massive gain. That's effectively what has happened in the current laptop lines with AMD having twice the cores with the same power usa

The IPO pop is definitely giving away value to a bunch of well connected investors who have added no value. Facebook solved it by pricing high and using the greenshoe. Most companies don't seem to have enough leverage to get that and e

Hopefully by 2K they mean 2.5K (2560x1600) and not actual 2K with a 1920x1200 screen.

That could be solved one layer up by just using Signal or similar for messaging and calls. Unfortunately voice over an LTE IP link is still quite unreliable compared to an actual call.

CO2 per passenger or cargo mile is not what we're optimizing. We want CO2 reduction per dollar spent. Converting high usage vehicles is better for that.

I don't see how this reduces returns for indexers in particular. Investing in an index means you get the market average. This may result in lower returns for the total market and thus also for indexers but for some active investors to

All I've read says Intel has a manufacturing disadvantage to TSMC (where AMD, Apple and many others get their chips) and their CPUs are less power efficient, not more, compared to AMD and particularly these kinds of upcoming ARM parts.
