What’s the max bitrate for recent bluetooth standards? I hate the idea of layering compression on top of compression. I just haven’t found anything that compares to a modest pair of cans with any kind of okay DAC/amplifier.

I’ve sort of wondered if there isn’t a possibility for ML driven decompilers that produce idiomatic source code from a given byte code.

Oh yeah, I did listen to that one. It was a perfect venue for Carmack because I could listen to John speak about anything for as long as John wants to speak about it. Rogan didn’t need to do much prompting for Carmack to spill his solid-gol

Oof, I mostly only ever listen to Rogan on long flights and then choose episodes based on whether I have any interest in the person interviewed. I was excited to listen to Nick Bostrom, but came away from that episode wanting to scream. I f

Yes, it was mind blowing to me to learn that, because the night sky is dark, the universe can’t be both infinitely old and infinitely sized. I’ve heard some nuances there too... we could be living in a finite pocket of an infinite universe.

Is there a substantive difference between something like the cheapo TCL with integrated Roku and a dumb / unconfigured smart TV with an external Roku? Genuine question—I mean, is TCL+Roku likely to share different telemetry due to manu

I see so many big, cheap smart TVs on the market, and I feel like there should be some way to lobotomize the smart features away. Maybe there is some underground community of smart TV hackers that has just eluded my web searches.

What OS? I do this in Linux and X11, but was unable to figure out Wayland. Also, macOS was no joy for me.

I think she went that route mainly because of cost rather than preference. She’ll obviously use what she wants to use, but she seems pretty unhappy / frustrated with status quo, so I don’t think helping her explore options is unreasona

Anyone here familiar with photo management know what the likely implications of the new USB storage support are? My elderly mother has gotten into photography in the past few years and shoots with what I assume is a prosumer camera (high-is

I recommend a pressure cooker for making stock rather than a slow cooker. Superior results in a fraction of the time and energy. I use a stovetop pressure cooker, which tend to cook at higher pressure than Instapot style cookers, but the In

I love the language. I’ve never found a language where I found the learning curve so shallow for being able to do so much. That said, I do find myself pining for the ability to easily compile a static executable (maybe with a small embedded

What are the likely implications for Space Junk? Will all these objects passively de-orbit if they fail (i.e. failsafe)? Are thousands of new orbiting objects enough to be a complication for new launches?

I’ve been looking at Gerbil lately, which seems to add some creature comforts, has some opinionated views, and is built atop Gambit: https://cons.io/

I would write a CLI in Clojure if it were a reasonable option. Something like Gambit or Chicken but for Clojure would be a dream. I guess there’s Ferret, so maybe I should give that a try.

How big are the resulting binaries these days? It’s been some time since I tried this, but I decided that the size of the compiled code didn’t fit my use case (a serverless function IIRC)

Most of the Schemes (Chicken, Gambit / Gerbil, Chez, Racket at least) have a way of distributing executables that are small. I’ve used Chicken in the past to create static binaries that were on the order of hundreds of kilobytes.

Most times I wouldn’t say it’s important that you go through exactly the same formal process that you’d do if you were planning to publish your own peer-reviewed article. However, in a software engineering context, let’s say that you’re imp
