In Brown we trust, along with Scott Wiener; these are the only two politicians doing anything to address housing prices. In San Francisco, the Mayor's Office of Housing (SFMOH) has created a complicated program of silent second liens t

TIL, sounds like a good system. Voting is not only selecting a leader or measure, but it also needs to be validated so that the people believe that the citizenry collectively made the decision. Observers, audit trails, multi-party sign off,

Fare boxes don’t vend change because it is another moving part that can break. Waiting for change creates dwell time multiplied by cash boarding. Agencies can buy fare boxes that give change but this only makes sense on lower ridership syst

The Oyster card in London is the only way to pay. Pay stations can vend cards, but they need to be distributed more for this to work with Clipper.

The cost is indexed, so the price really hasn’t changed. Don’t forget that there is a flat rate pass, and most 50+ person companies offer the passes pre-tax. In addition, TNC pricing doesn’t have federally mandated discounts for seniors, di

Clipper has a faster transaction time than a credit card, and the system also needs to support offline transactions. The fee on Clipper is lower too, .03 per tap to Cubic.

Also consider that, since this was an emergency fix that applied to vehicles, every single one of the 600+ fleet has to be retrofitted. That's a massive amount of rush labor and gear.

I have spoken to SFMTA staff about this as well. There are a few more details, mostly that this whole problem started when the agency tried to save $1M in their IT budget. This is what happens when an org focuses on giving away free rides i

SF is working on installing speed cams, but it has to pass Sacto first. I spoke to the staff at the SFMTA and they are working with the ACLU and EFF, among other rights advocacy groups, to establish a fair traffic cam law for SF.

My understanding is that the SFMTA has contractors on call to fix this. The machines are probably contracted out to a third party. I'll get to find out soon enough for sure!

I think this is a good idea, but there isn't much in the way of API access or documentation for SFMTA systems. Beyond Nextbus, there is no API to poll for data. Nearly everything requires a request for information or Sunshine request,

You seem to be getting down-voted, but autonomous public transportation is a good thought exercise, and yes it already exists on (small) rubber tire fleets. There are some unresolved problems here, such as where do all the SDCs go when empt

Congestion pricing still on the table, the problem is that San Mateo county wants a cut since they are not as landlocked as SF and would lose out on 101/280 drivers hitting local roads.

The city hasn't been doing a great job of dropping in fiber either. Maybe in SoMA, but up here in the hills I had my street repaved and there was no plans to put in fiber or upgrade sewer while it was being dug up (I checked with DPW).
