Yea so the universe says nothing can move faster than a massless particle in a vacuum. The photon is the most famous—hence the speed of light—but any massless this can move at it. So GWs do theoretically move at the speed of light, though c

Literally never heard of any of these. However I have heard of Safari, Edge, and Firefox. And I don’t think the market share breakdown of twitter vs Mastodon is similar to Chrome vs. Firefox.

Yea the image checklist is not the best. I’m guessing some marketing person had that and the copywriter didn’t know how/couldn’t do that in html/css.

You asked about Silicon Valley startups and I work at one. I genuinely don’t think that today I could use a Chromebook to do any level of my work. I have used one in the past (though not for programming) and even that was miserable.

I thought this was a special version of Chrome the browser and I think many people will too. Especially someone like my brother who works at a corporation. If they told him they’re switching to Chrome Enterprise he’d be a tad confused. Side

This is really great of Mozilla. I’m really excited to see such a large rust project used on such a scale; after that I think there will be few doubts it’s a really really impressive language. Also the fact that Mozilla knew this and decide

I don’t know if it’s something in recent events (I presume not) but it’s disappointing HN can’t have a conversation around popular culture topic without descending into calling part of the population “vapid” or whatever. Can’t we just accep

I’ve never used either in my life and have spent a ton of time in Africa, the US, Ireland, and England. 3 continents.

There are other more complicated reasons but this is a pretty good answer. Basically that matter at some point must have been at the Big Bang and with all the heat generated around that time some of it must have interacted with the debris t

Honestly I use both often and just the startup makes it seem faster. Just the startup alone makes such a large difference to perception.

Well that’s not really my point. I’m simple saying no one should feel threatened and if someone does then that is their line. Whether that is an appropriate line isn’t for me to say, I cannot speak for other people. And it’s up to the compa

It could be to obscure the Apple Watch numbers. They don’t want it to be reverse engineered so they hide a sizable and decently appropriate thing in there.

I’ve been considering this the past few days. As long as Google is around no one will try and hit Apple with a monopoly on Music. Music is controlled by three companies so it seems purely hypocritical to attack Apple if they decided to take

Apple and many tech companies are a world where association is everything. “I work at Palantir” means a lot. “I work at Uber” at the moment may be both positive and negative. The academic world is not like this at all. Paper count is every

I don’t really see how that is true. Censorship means getting your own citizens in trouble so that doesn’t really work out and you only need turn on the news to see how the U.S. can poorly protect their citizens.

That is categorically false. Chinese communism is strongly influenced by nationalism and protectionism comes from that but make no mistake that their goal is censorship.

I liked the idea of SoundCloud but it was horribly designed. The app was just so so clunky. I know some producers and they were early adopters on SoundCloud. The community was begging for this and jumped on early. They had the demand, they
