Depends on the person I'm talking to: "Software Engineer" - Business folks "Developer" - Friends, programmers, most other situations "I build websites" - anyone in a bar (usually end up yelling this to be heard)

Didn't they fool pretty much everyone? Even the author only had a suspicion and resorted to some (impressive) tests to verify.

My laptop was stolen 5 years ago and I still think about it and get angry occasionally. Just letting people take things that are important to you and immediately moving on may work for you but for me, my laptop was the most important thing

I love APIs that offer JSON instead of XML. Especially when I'm programming in PHP, parsing XML is so tedious. On the other hand, using json_decode is a pleasure.

I would argue this has more to do with the developers familiarity of the language which would dictate speed of the initial build and speed of iterations.

Same, I'm not a good enough designer to be changing the default UI significantly so it's largely standard in my apps. I'd love a themeforest for iOS apps.

Good point as far as DNS access goes but new protocols won't get the sites advertising money or search engine views.

I was drawn to security for a while mostly because javascript like that must be so much fun to write and encrypt. Although it's almost as much fun to decrypt. Until I get some more free time I guess I'll settle for reading about it. Also,

I don't follow MS closely but I thought bill gates was no longer involved. Is he guiding MS with enough influence that (betting against MS == betting against gates)?

I hate being forced to login with my email address. My username is the same or similar for most sites I use but I use a site specific email (with gmails + feature) for almost every sign up.

I'm in the same boat with my site. For now I've given up on A/B testing until I can at least double my traffic. This SEO service seems fairly cheap and came highly recommended by @aymeric: http://taskarmy.com/services/342-get-your-webpag
