I walk a lot, drink wine, and listen to podcasts and audio books. You probably don't need much social media to keep yourself sane. But you have to test it for yourself, and for some months. Good luck with your experimentation. We evo

I took computer science at school in 1989 because I hated my chemistry teacher in 1988. Never looked back. I really loved the author's call for attention to whether kids are "getting" the concepts being taught and adjust acco

I got better at software project estimation the longer I spent in the dev industry. But I still knew I was using back-of-brain knowledge and probably wouldn't benefit from bringing too much of it into my consciousness. I think it'

I recently heard a criticism that this forum was looking too far backward in tech history and lore. Can I suggest everyone young and old look back even further in moral history. Start with the secret diary of Marcus Aurelius. It is about 20

If you get a chance to read Computer Power and Human Reason by Weizenbaum, now is the time to do it by any means available - especially if curiosity drives your question.

I like it. I'm getting older. Get the people here you want. If you don't shout out to my past, I'll find somewhere else that does it. Not "my" issue. Not "your" issue.

This is an interesting viewpoint. I might suggest prototyping game ideas with an existing "game creation" tool, even something like roblox. Then one has multiple pathways for their design to progress - world design, interaction, s

If anything, writing froze ideas (see religion), whereas speaking them from generation to generation allowed the dross to slough off good ideas. Does good science require writing? That's a good debate to have. Are written notes essenti

Audio books returned to me the mouth to ear telling of stories that we had for tens of thousands of years. Writing/reading has not been around long enough to have any impact of our actual evolution. I wouldn't bemoan its loss too

A looong time ago, I worked at a company that compiled shareware CD-ROMs and sold them when modem speeds were still slow for most people. We tested all the games on Windows (95 I think) before they went on to the CD. Unfortunately, one game

This is an interesting point. If the alternative to charging for a free service is to cancel it, which should one do? This of course is usually a false dichotomy. An alternative is to set it free for an exchange of goodwill and perceived lo

"some" means "all" from Australia's recent intrusions (Optus, Telstra). They can say "some" when the people at the top responsible for reporting only want a sample. It's PR.
