Yeah, there's a full JavaScript API for setting these dynamically. Check out (no pun...) https://stripe.com/docs/checkout .

Yeah, you can definitely use this with recurring payments. Once you attach the token created by the Checkout to a customer, you can bill the customer whenever you like. (There's more at https://stripe.com/docs/checkout )

The idea is clicking submit on the host form would trigger the Checkout. Then, after you enter your payment details, the whole thing submits.

Many users want to collect names, and it can be helpful for fraud purposes. We're still evolving and testing, though. We might not keep it forever.

Sure -- but you can always deceive the user.

Yep, we think that this is a better solution than the tag (which we never really launched). But I'm glad to hear it's working well for you!

The amount is just for display purposes. You then charge whatever amount you want on the server.

While it's painful that this is happening now and not a year ago, I'm heartened that Hal is heading the internal investigation. I can't imagine anyone better. He was a major supporter of Star Simpson when most of the MIT administration hung

Most of Stripe's fees go straight to credit card issuers. We wish the underlying costs were lower, and would happily cut our rates if so. Compared to other companies that help you accept credit cards, though, I think that Stripe's prices ar

As others have pointed out, a 7% chargeback rate is pretty problematic -- the card brands (Visa and co) will intervene long before then.

Stripe will happily waive the first $37 in fees.

The thing is, most paperwork doesn't actually help eliminate fraud. It just creates inefficiency and friction.

Don't stress out over it. I'm Patrick, John's brother. I too constantly feel that I should be more successful, and I'm pretty sure the feeling doesn't go away -- no matter what's achieved. I think looking at others can be a useful gut check

Yeah, we'll probably build something like that at some point. Stripe Connect has been in production for months on a lot of different sites, though, and the lack of this hasn't seemed to cause issues in practice. So we decided it shouldn't h

Ah -- so, users can create Stripe accounts during the OAuth flow. Check out https://stripe.com/docs/connect#payments-flow , for example. A logged-in user will see the page on the left, while a new user will see the page on the right. That

Patrick from Stripe here. I wanted to say thanks for the comments. This is just a beta product that we're experimenting with. As many people here are pointing out, there's still a lot we want to fix and improve (e.g. the button text and how

Yeah; this isn't something we're looking to make a big deal out of. It's just a beta product we're experimenting with and which The Next Web chose to write about. There's still a lot we want to fix and improve.

I'm sorry. It's really frustrating for us too. To the extent it helps, Canada is very much just a first step for us. We're actively working on a number of countries—including New Zealand specifically.

Yeah, that's right. It's also worth emphasizing that the Stripe API doesn't support sessions, and so isn't vulnerable to standard CSRF attacks.

It's a tough question. We consider compensation to be confidential to both employees and the company -- in general, it's not our information to share. Within the constraints of that, though, we try to be as open as possible. In particular,

Yeah, we're pretty sure that what we do will require extensive tweaking as we scale. We did a bunch of things at 5 people that haven't scaled to 30. I'm optimistic the properties that we care most about can scale with us, though, even if th

[Disclaimer: Stripe cofounder.] I know you probably mean this at least in part in jest, but I've found this to be a pretty common perception in the tech industry. It's probably worth addressing directly. We want to work with the best engine
