I tried VS Code for a few weeks and really liked it. In particular, it's super super fast (compared to vim, spacemacs, emacs and atom, all of which I've used in recent history). It's by far the fastest and smoothest text edit

Yes, this is exactly right. If you want to automatically upgrade a thing, you need a way for them to pin their existing config so it doesn't break. A good analogy here is Stripe's API versioning: they keep making it better, but yo

I did a similar thing, using a tiny executable that someone else had made. However, even though the container was around 100 bytes, I couldn't make a container that was smaller than some much larger number, maybe 512kb? This was in 201

I think this advice is great, but the wording they use causes people to miss the point. Specifically the word "launch". You don't need to have a big marketing launch, you don't need to do ads, you just need to get it in

If Google needs Mac hardware to test Safari on, CircleCI has a Mac cloud they could use :) https://circleci.com/mobile/osx/

Often, that LLC will have important IP that isn't trivial to convert. (Hence paying the lawyers way more than $500 to fix it). What's the advantage of doing it in 2 (expensive!) steps if you know the plan already?

If you are planning to do equity funding, the $500 to Atlas is cheaper than the $4000 to a lawyer to convert your LLC to a C-corp later. Disclaimer: happy Atlas user who did previous C-corps the old-fashioned way and did not enjoy doing tha

What the founders know - and are telling investors - is they have an offer to sell the company and they don't want to take it, but it's so much money they'd be stupid not to. The investors want the company to keep going -- an

No, it doesn't. Firefox is a monorepo (of course, it's just one product). All their other products (bugzilla, rust, all the web properties) have different repos. Check out their other repos: https://github.com/mozi

I think google might be the only people to do monorepo (and even they don't - for example, Android and Chrome are different repos), but they have built massive internal tooling to support this. For everyone else, once you get past a ce

Cofounder is a title, like any other. It doesn't just refer to "I was there at the start of the corporate entity". If they're calling Ben a cofounder, then they certainly mean it. You're right that he wasn't th

We're having two different conversations here. You are saying (correct me if I'm wrong) that the algorithms you use for parsing are broadly applicable to program analysis. You are not wrong. It's just orthogonal to my point,

Pet peeve about compiler education that is not repeated by this article (yay, well done!): the way you have to wade through months of parsing bullshit to get to the really interesting stuff (optimization and static analysis).
