I think we need to rethink what we mean by debugger. In Dark ( https://darklang.com ), we don't have a debugger. Instead we combine the editor with the language, and then when you're editing code you have available at al

I was always looking to make a business, though I really enjoy the creation and product side of things. It turned into a business pretty quick, though: we had customers within 3 months and paying customers within 6. 18 months later we had $

When we started CircleCI, there were at least 3 other things that were pretty much the same. In addition, two similar services had died, and one had pivoted to be a PaaS. There was also Jenkins, TeamCity, Bamboo, and lots of other alternati

I've been doing this system for nearly 5 years, and have sent it to dozens of people who have email issues. It hasn't been perfect, but it's the closest thing I've found.

More than you'd think. I did some analysis (in 2008 mind you, long time ago, PHP4/PHP5). I think I found that half the packages on sourceforge (sourceforge!) had a use of a dynamic construct. When I looked into it, it wasn't

That's how we handled it in phc, for exactly that reason. Turns out was also useful for simple things like "what is the value of this float" which changed between different versions. Also gets you the standard library. Detail

phc is dead, so there's that :) Apart from that, it seems to be following a similar path, but is a little bit earlier down it. Could probably look at the code we generated and copy some of the solutions. PHC was also designed to suppor

Does anyone know why is it that seemingly every major city is having an affordability crisis at the same time?

I had hoped to use Haskell for my company, but found it much too complicated. OCaml skips a great deal of the complexity of Haskell, while still having the advantages of a static functional language. I find it exceptionally practical.

I'm talking about using 3rdparty APIs, like Twilio or Stripe or something, that we don't have control over and that we need to handle. So we want it to feel like calling functions, though in practice it needs to be able to handle

Gotcha. Yeah, we're planning on allowing users to tweak their performance by providing this sort of constraint to the system, and allowing the system optimize it. We are far from that, but that's where we're aiming for.

Great! That got us our first two customers, and it allowed us prioritize really effectively for what they actually needed. And it cost us almost nothing, like $15k total - a great investment :) Would you read a blog post on this?

I don't think it's really similar to Eve at all, except that it's an outside the box look at how we code. We're extremely focused on the backend coding use case, and solving known problems. I think Eve was on the path of

Our goal is making it super easy to build and run backends, and so if the first step was "install kubernetes" I don't think we'd have realized our goal. We don't have a goal of running these apps elsewhere. However,

Probably September, though no promises. We're still redoing some core metaphors. Codewise, you can expect it to look similar to Elm/OCaml - functional/imperative language with structured error handling and no null.
