I tried out pcbsd, which I think is based off FreeBSD. The only issue I had was everything being built from source. Considering that userspace is pretty much the same for BSD and Linux, I am guessing there wont be many issues. Coming from a

Aren't the macbooks over-priced ? Personally I'd rather buy a laptop and a tablet (something like the transformer) rather than get something that costs twice as much or offers lower return on hardware for the same price. Disclaimer: I am fr

Any particular reason you have a Windows host + linux VM instead of the other way around ? Personal experience has been Linux hosts + Windows VM performs better than the other way around.

I am not from the valley and it is heart-warming to see Linux beat out OSX. Especially considering the number of mac books I have seen engineers carry about, the couple of times I have been there.

Sorry, I was talking about two completely independent things in the same comment. 1) About the negative points for the downvoter 2) The concept of "fan-boy downvotes".

Stack overflow does this, but I think only under certain conditions. Like if the question has been upvoted, or if you are the first person. I am not too familiar with how they do it. I disagree a bit on the fan-boy downvotes. From what I ha

I'd like to think I have two different peak periods depending on the kind of work I am doing. - 2:00 p.m. - 6:00 p.m. Usually great for bug fixing and such. - 10:00 p.m.- 2:00 a.m. Usually when I am working on big, solo, projects. EDIT :

I don't really buy the cheap argument. The galaxy Tab 10.1 is $448 on Amazon, while the ipad 2 is $449.99. The galaxy tab's in the other form factors may be cheaper, but those are the markets that Apple is not trying to, and may never, com

Meh @ incentives. If I could make decent money doing what I love, working with like minded people and changing the world for the better, I would take even smaller odds / profit ratios. Add to that the open source projects they fund, the sha

But at what cost ? I have seen horrors faced by people trying to upgrade their core2duo or even nehalem based laptops to the latest version of OSX. Besides, the post was about hardware fragmentation more than software fragmentation.

I wish I had the capacity to downvote this. Anyone who wants consistent design just because it is a pain to you should not be a programmer / engineer / hacker. Because if you are, any one of them, you whine, but then find solutions anyway a
