I'll bite. I play D&D remotely with my friends. I need to be able to have low latency voice and video communication, but I also need control over the audio codec and bit rate. Zoom and other video conferencing solutions use codecs

If they had just given the replicants a visa and a software update there wouldn't have been any fuss. Of course, then we wouldn't have had that great final monolog. :)

There's an "ask a question" feature out of beta now that is designed for not cluttering the issues. I believe it has to be enabled on the repo.

This is the intended use of grid and flexbox for sure. Unfortunately most developers seem to abuse either one or the other.

Also interesting that as a kid born in 1980 at the start of the drug violence epidemic, we were allowed to roam as we pleased as long as we were home for dinner. Contrast that to today's vastly safer world, and kids are not allowed to

I'm pretty sure most Linux desktop environments these days have decent support for UI scaling. Last time I tried it worked well if your dpi was close to an integer multiple of 96. And if external boot works well with the M1 Macs, a thu

But light only travels at c in a vacuum, if I remember correctly. So the journey isn't instantaneous, but still very very short. :)

Man, it's very difficult, and very humbling to try and wrap your head around just how big the universe is. I don't think human brains are capable of thinking at that scale.

On the other hand, search engines of those times gave you what you asked for, not what it decided was best for you. That option is gone now, and searching for many niche topics is no longer possible. If that's what you're looking

I noticed during the last local eclipse that the light shining through the trees cast thousands of little eclipses on the ground. I thought it was way cooler than the eclipse itself.

And just so 2020 can give you a kick in the teeth on the way out the door, you can't buy any of these technological wonders unless you pay a scalper on eBay a 100% premium.

Reading the NY times article I wasn't sure whether to laugh or rage at how the author repeatedly equated videos with "teen" in the title and child sex abuse. I've been an avid consumer of porn since the early 1990s and n

Front end library type definitions are a nightmare because they are usually retrofitted onto code that uses JavaScript idioms that take heavy advantage of metaprogramming and it's dynamic nature. It's also compounded (in my opinio

Investment rounds aren't loans, they're... Investments. You're selling them a stake in the company, not borrowing money. I'm sure there are exceptions but that's generally how it works.

I split my time between front end development and UI/UX design. I believe this is because achieving a good UI/UX requires a holistic knowledge of the entire software suite, and detailed information about who is using the product a

I’m so tired of reading this same comment over and over every time someone on HN dares to say they prefer Windows. As if it obviates all of their other points. Also, you turn it off once after install and that’s it.
